Easy question...?

This may be an easy question to answer, or a dumb one...but how do I lock the exposure on the XH-A1? For instance, I'm shooting somebody inside sitting down on a chair with a bright window in the background. I want to expose for the face, so I hold an 18% grey card next to his face, zoom in on the card, set the mode to auto. Now how do I lock that exposure so I can zoom out again and shoot the interview with the window showing in the background?

question about manual (guide to A1)

I found the exposure lock button (duh!) But I am a bit confused about what the manual says concerning the exposure indicator that appears in the LCD after you press the exposure lock button. It says:

"The arrow mark above the indicator denotes the automatic exposure setting. The bar mark of the indicator denotes the current exposure setting within plus or minus 2 stops (beyond 2 stops, the marker will blink)."

Now seeing this in action, isn't it the other way around? Wouldn't the bar mark, which moves around, indicate what the AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE SETTING would be if it was on auto? And doesn't the arrow -- not the bar -- denote the CURRENT setting?

Am I missing something? Most probably I am, but could anyone explain...?
