Early season powder in Tahoe

Late December powder isn't unheard of in California, but its not every year that its like this.
The DVX is still shining in my eyes, although she's starting to tire me with all the workarounds I have to go through. Scarlet please.
 
i couldnt watch with sound on but it looks real good man. looks like a documentary i would watch on cable.

What are your "workarounds"? 60i for that incredible slomo?

Of you're still interested, absolutely. I can't stress enough the benifit of a decent tripod system. The sticks are even more importaint in snow because it is definetly not a solid platform to set up on. I almost always dig a pit and pack the snow down so I have a solid start for my support system
When you use the 60i for slow motion trick, shutter speed REALLY matters. Some of those shots were shot at 1/60 and its a pain in the ass to make it look good. Especially if you're planning on tweaking it in post.
I've found that the in-camera displays are only good for framing and focusing because, at least in the high contrast situations that snow creates it is extremely hard for either the EVF or LCD to display the full latitude of the camera. I usually find that its better to let the highlights blow out a little, but its case by case.
Watch a lot of ski movies (or whatever genera you're shooting). And I mean A LOT. Watch all the bts you can. Pause the movies and take a closer look at how the shots are composed.
Finally, don't get too wrapped up in your equipment or editing. Just go out there and shoot and have fun. That applies more to this style of filmmaking, but the principle can be used anywhere. Keep it as simple as possible.

One last thing to share; I recently met this girl who had just moved up here from the valley. After hanging out with her a couple times, one of the videos I shot last year somehow came up. She told me that "I watched it so much that my parents knew what I was watching just by hearing the song." Hearing someone say that in person while you're making pizza with them is one of the most rewarding things in the world.
