E series Transfer times versus old cards

If I am using a dual adaptor and it takes 8 minutes to transfer a 16G P2 card to my
macbook pro, will a new 16G E card do that transfer in 8 minutes?

E series are faster.

I don't know how much faster, but faster. The DA and interface may affect how fast everything goes. But it won't be slower.

If you're trying to transfer to a macbook pro, it won't be any faster unless you make your MBP faster. The MBP's hard drive is the bottleneck.

Put in a hyper-fast SSD (or, better yet, RAID 0 a couple of SSDs) and you could transfer a 16GB "E" series card in 2 minutes. But if you're going to a single hard drive, expect it to still take about 8 minutes, because that's all the hard drive can handle.

I just saw a Panasonic marketing bulletin today that lists the older "A" series cards at a transfer speed max of 800 Mb/s, and the new "E" cards at 1.2 Gb/sec (thanks, Barry). I assume the transfer device will be the bottleneck.

Should be 1.2 Gb/sec, or 1200 mb/sec.

If going through PCMCIA or PCI-Express, the bottleneck would be what you're transferring to. If using a USB reader, USB would be the bottleneck. Heck, even FW800 could be considered a bottleneck now.

I was talking to someone at Panasonic and they said they were doing some testing with the new PCD35 hooked up to an NLE (nothing fancy, dual core with two HDD in RAID) and they were getting 10:1 transfer times with the E-Series cards!
