Good timing on this video release, per this discussion. The topic of how to accurately (or even creatively) expose has certainly been going on forever. There's some good info in there though.
Having these discussions on this forum are invaluable. Obviously the clients I shoot for aren't interested in how rating the camera at 1600 instead of 800 will affect the image and its allocation of stops. They just want it to look good on the monitor while the shoot is going on.
As creative and technical people we have these conversations amongst ourselves, in order to produce the best work possible. And then, hopefully, get hired back.
Appreciate that you took the time to create this video and share. I am also of the opinion that the C200 still does very well. I think the reason (except for the lack of internal ProRes) many have given up on it is that they don't have spent the time to squeeze everything out of the digital negative when "developing" it in Resolve or Premiere. Canon could have released much more information about the best workflow here. (For example, why do people expect RAW footage to be noiseless? Using RAW puts the burden of applying noise reduction on the shooter.)
After some months of trial and error, I couldn't be happier. And if the DGO sensor output of the C70 and C300 MK III produces an even "fatter" digital negative I can't wait to see what Canon has in store for us this year.
