DxOMark review for the Panasonic Lumix DMC GH1

Yes but that is comparing the sensor while that would be comparing the video codec. Anyway what I hope is that Panasonic is going to surprise as.
Competition is getting harder and harder, Samsung, Red, Canon, Nikon is thinking of joining, Olympus... So we have only amazing things to see I guess

First sentence of the review -

"The Panasonic DMC GH1 replaces its predecessor, the Panasonic DMC G1."

Wrong, surely?

In which case, not a good start!

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Image-Quality-Database/Panasonic/Lumix-DMC-GH1 is interesting given the previous discussions here about the GH1's actual vs claimed sensitivity. It seems to show the GH1 is more sensitive than it claims to be but not by much. On the other hand the 7D is less sensitive than claimed (if you set up a comparison graph on the linked page). In fact, if you look at the 7D and the GH1 together in the full set of graphs, the GH1 either matches or betters the 7D in all of them, unless I'm misreading them...

Oops - edited my post to read "In fact, if you look at the 7D and the GH1 together in the full set of graphs, the GH1 either matches or betters the 7D in all of them, unless I'm misreading them..."

hmmmm

I must say, that after encounter the banding effects of this camera, and to see that they didn't mention it even once, make me think what those lab test worth...

I love my GH1, but to say that its better ISO performer than the 7D, I don't know...

GH1 is good for 100-400 ISO, or you will get banding.

And no, the voodoo post of leaving your camera working all night long to solve this issue is too strange for me, I have more than 50 movie hours since I bought this camera, and still have banding in low light in ISO 800.

If you set the camera to 1600ISO you might see some banding in VIDEO. If you tell me look better, I can only tell you post an example of ISO400 photo with banding to prove your ability to see over mine.

NOT to mention that I watched the Gamer, shot with RED and there was some banding in underexposed areas. Its not such a big deal for a 1,000$ camera...

I will see issues in very high ISO settings but then again, rarely do I use an ISO of something like 800 or more especially with the f/1.7, 20mm lens.

Here's a video of people ice skating. I had the Shutter set to 60, the Aperture set to f/1.7 and the ISO set to 400. I don't think intelligent Auto was enabled and I've seen my low light videos looking better with it disabled and I've read people coming to the same conclusion with their videos.

On my the page, you can actually download the RAW file that came directly off the camera for closer inspection. It really doesn't look bad at all.
