I can buy a second hand DVX100A for the same price as a new TM700....

What would you do....... ????

Thanks!

I basically film for a small tv network, have been using 100B for the last 4 years.
I really like the TM700 but I'm a dvx veteran... Experience vs challenge....?? Help!!

While you gain 1080p HD with the TM700, you lose professional and manual control over your image, as well as professional audio capabilities.

It's also worth mentioning that the TM700 records .mts files, which have to be converted before editing. Their included software, from what I've read, is not Mac-compatible. There are third-party converters out there, some free and some for purchase, that will do that, but it's a pain to deal with.

How much do you need to move to HD at this point? If you really do, I'd save/spend a little more on something like the HMC40 with XLR converter. That'll run you a little less than a new DVX100B. It still won't have all the controls that the DVX does, but it comes a lot closer and has a similar, though slightly smaller, form factor.

Doubts arise.....
Which manual controls does the DVX have that the TM700 doesnt? (just plain curiosity)

It's not completely a question of which one the DVX has that the TM700 doesn't. They both have manual control (though the DVX does have a couple more). It's really a matter of accessibility.

With the DVX, manual focus is readily available using a focus ring located behind the lens. White balance features are available through buttons and switches on the camera's chassis. User-set functions are available there as well.

Lots of stuff that can be changed with a button rather than opening up a menu. Plus, manual zoom control is priceless. There's a zoom ring behind the focus ring, and when focus is switched from servo to manual, you can snap your zoom quickly and easily.

You also get tons of manual audio control, all available on the side of the camera, plus the XLR inputs.
