DVX100BP Line Input

I have been trying to dub better sound by using the line input and a hand held mic. Problem is no matter what I do, set the switch to line instead of mic, use the line 1 & 2 instead of auto on the side panel, and used the power to the mic for whatever line input I want to make hot, I still cannot get sound over dubs using the line 1 or line 2 input. I've done all the manual requires, or at least I think I have. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And there's your problem.

Line-level input will not work with a mic-level source. Plug your mic into XLR input 2. Set the switch for In 2 on the front of the camera to "Mic." On the side of the camera, set both record channels to Input 2. If your mic requires phantom power, turn the +48v for input 2 to "on."

Set your record levels so that Channel 1 records at nominal level and Channel 2 records just a few dB lower as a safety.

Thanks so much

I certainly appreciate your response, I had just gotten this new shotgun mic, and had only used the built in mic. I also learned to use the head phone's and set my level on the shotgun mic. Man that thing works great, I leave the levels down until I post, and then turn the sensitivity up. Thanks again,
