Dvx100b video quality help

Hey everyone! I am new to the DVX and when I look at the video off the camera the quality is crap. Can you guys tell me what I should do So the picture quality is great like I see on other peoples YouTube videos shot with a dvx? Like when I have mine on my computer that quality is like a cell phone video. Thanks for the help! :)

Gamma is cinelike d, knee is auto, matrix is cinelike, and 30p progressive.( i hope thats what you need. if you need more info tell me what you need to know and i will check) i use my firewire cable and transfer it to my laptops windows movie maker. Thanks :)

im sure it has nothing to do with the in cam settings if your saying the video look like cell phone quality on your computer. it has to be the way your capturing the footage.

These are my thoughts:
1. Aesthetically speaking, most people prefer 24p over 30p.
2. A higher quality render from a program like After Effects will do a better job of compressing the video.
3. Your focus may be off.
4. Get Barry Green's book if you don't have it.

1) Everything seems blurry to me.
2) You can try and play around with 24/30p and 60i to get different film/video looking results.
3) A good amount of the videos you see on Youtube/Vimeo have work done in post for that "quality is great", but there are setting to achieve this in your cam too with out doing any/little work in post.

edit: Looks like Jordan commented b4 me, but we have similar post.

- Second Barry Book
- Render settings? Also what NLE (Vegas, Final Cut, Premier,...) are you using?
- You don't have to render to HD to make your video look good...

30P is fine.
Your focus is, well, out of focus.

1) using manual iris adjustment, select an ND filter setting that allows you to use an f-stop of 5.6 (or close to it) for proper exposure. For the scene you posted, exposure should be determined using the 100% zebra setting. Don't even think of using auto-focus, auto-iris or auto-anything.

2) Zoom all the way in to an object you pick as your center depth of field or main subject. A light pole or tree would work. Focus carefully on that object. Without changing focus, zoom back out to frame your shot.

3) Record.

4) Buy the book.

5) Repeat steps 1-3 after reading the book and examine your results

For now...

Read your owners manual. If you don't have one, get one from Panasonic.
Read This Book!. If you don't have one, buy one.
Use the "Search" function in the forums.

I use windows movie maker because i get a new laptop soon and dont want to get premiere pro until i get that computer.

Check your capture settings in Movie Maker. Look for the window that gives you the following 3 options:

Best Quality For Playback On My Computer (Recommended)

Digital Device Format (DV-AVI)

Other Settings

Choose "Digital Device Format (DV-AVI)"

Click NEXT and capture some footage. See if you still have the quality problem.

If you DO, next step is to connect your DVX100b directly to a TV. Play the tape and watch it on the TV. Does the footage still look like crap?

Let us know the answers.

Thats why I recommend Vegas. There is no capture settings vegas does EVERYTHING for you from FPS to pulldown ....ppl are always having problems with capturing...

Well I downloaded Sony Vegas Pro 9 and then when I export I do the best quality it offers and that fixes the problem for now. I will keep messing around and see if there is more to it. Thanks for all the support :)
