DVX100B - is the tape mechanism noisy loading?

I bought this DVX100B off E-Bay. When loading & unloading the tape, it seems like there should not be so much noise. I worked with these as a volunteer doing high school sports and thought they were quieter than this one. I have GL2s that make a somewhat similar noise but this one reminds me of a dry bearing. I put a short sample on YouTube if someone would listen & give an opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbJmQ2B8Y_E I have 3 days to decide to keep it or send it back. Any help would be appreciated.

I couldnt really remember what my dvx sounded like so I picked mine up and opened the tape deck.. as far as it being noisy its not as bad as your video is.. however it does make the same exact noise but its not near as loud as that.. I dont think theres anything wrong with it at all.. but im no expert.

Thanks for the input. I am going to see if I can check out the cameras I used as a volunteer. One reason of many I went with the DVX100B was my impression that the tape mechanism was more reliable than the GL2s. Maybe this one is an exception or maybe it is ok.

yeah I would double check.. i could understand if it the dvx wasnt supposed to make that sound, but mine does.. its just not THAT loud.

Mine sounds the same when loading/unloading... as for how loud by comparison, I have a feeling it's the same as well. The problem with this video is that we have no idea how loud it really is, how much it was amplified, etc. Remember that a microphone is going to greatly enhance the sound.

To the OP: I wouldn't worry about your camera.

seems normal to me. as c2v said it depends on the mic used for this and amplification cuz if u used a shotgun and positioned it well ud hear every nuance of sound...then it'd totally freak u out lol. so it does seem normal from this vid.

I concur with others - mine does the same thing. The noise is not a reflection of the tape mechanism's quality.
