DVX100b Capture Issue

When I connect the camera, by computer detects it..pops up, says "Panasonic DV Device" detected, "Found New Hardware", etc...little pop up comes up and says

"Capture with Sony Vegas"
"Capture with Windows Movie Maker"

When I go to Movie Maker, it just gives the error that no device is detected. In Vegas, when I select Capture then choose "DV" it just says "Please connect device"

What is the issue here? Thanks.

at my high school we had 10 dvx's and in the begning of the school year 8 of them captured to FCP but by the end of the year only 1 would capture. it ended up being that when you would plug the dvx into the computer there would by a little electrical shock that would would go through the fire wire and it would fry the fire wire terminal on the dvx. i hope thats not what happened to you.

good luck with it

No, cause if the computer recognizes the camera when plugged in, the firewire port is still fully functional.

But it always is a good rule of thumb to connect camera to computer BEFORE powering the camera on, to avoid any possible power spikes

It recognizes the camera....just doesnt recognize it on SOny Vegas or Windows Movie Maker

If I remember correctly, you cannot capture with Movie Maker using a DVX. I have not had any issues with capture on Adobe Premiere Pro, however, it's expensive. What type of connections do you have from the dvx to your system? Is it a 4pin to 4pin firewire? Or a 4pin to 6pin?
