hello, i am looking to buy a used dvx and i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the DVX100B can shoot in 16:9? i have looked around but people have different answers, some say it does but its not proper 16:9 as it just stretches the 4:3, where as other people say that it just doesn't shoot in 16:9. if anyone can help i would appreciate it.
thanks

Don't know where you've been looking, but there are plenty of very clear answers out there... the first being the manufacturer description available on most retailer websites.

The DVX100b has a "squeeze" mode that shoots anamorphic 16:9. The camera doesn't have native 16:9 chips, so it does crop the image from the sensors and then squeeze it to anamorphic 16:9 to fill out the 4:3 frame. It's then stretched out in post. Yes, this results in loss of resolution, but honestly the camera's images are so clean that it doesn't matter that much.

The DVX will also shoot in letterbox, or a 16:9 image within a 4:3 frame with black bars at the top and bottom.

Agreed. I am very happy with my 24ap footage in squeeze mode. It's not HD, but I can get shots that are so crisp you can see individual dust particles on a table when shooting macro.
