DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

???ATTENTION! ???

I just purchased a DVX100A from Willoughbys (www.willoughbys.com) and discovered [glow=red,2,300]dead pixels[/glow] on the flip-out LCD screen. So far, Panasonic has not mentioned a bad lot that got through their inspection team. :o

Pay attention when and IF you purchase one. It might actually be more of a problem than you think. I've done shooting tests and it does not appear on the tape, so perhaps it's not a problem with the CCD (Canon seems to have that problem).

Just letting you know IT has happened.

PS> Some stores will not allow an exchange if you register your DVX's serial number with Panasonic. If you deal with an authorized dealer in the northeast, call Phyllis at 201-348-7196. She told me that all authorized dealers should fill out an I.F (initial failure) paperwork and authorize the exchange. Be careful. Willoughbys said No! Panasonic disagrees.

Good luck!

Director.

I got the same problem on my dvx100. Does not seem to affect the picture on tape, but it's a real bummer. ???

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

How many dead pixels are there on your LCD screen?
If it's more than 2 or 3, they really should replace it for you, especially if it's gonna bug you every time you use the LCD.

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

I have one dead pixel on my LCD screen, but it doesn't bug me at all. The end product doesn't have it, so I don't let it bother me. It's a lot less distracting than all the informational displays on the side...even though I'm cool with those too :P

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

Unless there are a lot of dead pixels then I doubt they would do anything. Most LCDs either have them or eventually will have them. I bought 2 Neovo LCDs and both of them had at least one straight out of the box.

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

Really, there isn't a problem unless they're recorded to the tape. THAT'S when you should start getting refunds 8)

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

The LCD's warranty allow an excahange only for more than 3 adiacent dead pixels >:(.
I had one on a cheap JVC and no way to exchange but after some month it is recovered by himself!!! Good luck!

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

My LCD had a blown pixel right out of the box. Luckily, B&H was willing to exchange it. There was no problem on the next one I received. I heard that if you gently rub the LCD you can make the blown pixel dot dissappear.

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

Thank you for the reponses.

There are two dead pixels on the screen, one right above the other one. If it weren't for the fact they were red, I would have thought it was a period at the end of the time code.

It doesn't show up on tape - thank God! - - I just broke the camera in over the week on an indenpendent shoot and used a 13" NTSC monitor - never shows up and I actually forgot it was there.

To answer if Willoughbys will exchange it or if Panasonic will exchange it - the answer is yes and no. No Willoughbys will NOT exchange it because I already registered the serial number in my name - even though Panasonic said, "BULL- :-X" - They really gave me a fight on that one. Doubtful if I will shop there again. After Panasonic forced them to exhange it, they suddenly didn't have any in stock to exhange! :o - - Imagine that?

Panasonic was awesome and really worked for me, but Willougbys gave me the typical run-around. However, Panasonic did say that if the dead pixels were NOT "picture imparing" then it wouldn't be covered by the warranty anyway, so the repair center said they wouldn't be able to repair it. Not that the repair center had any DVX100A parts in anyway, it's so new. According to Panasonic's number one repair center in Georgia, the DVX100 and 100A is SOOOO rockin, they never get them in for repair! In fact, they were shocked to discover it had a dead pixel in the first place.

Bottom line guys, the camera operated great right out of the box and the dot doesn't bother me.

Thanks!

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

got one too . . . . mines blue :P adds character & means I could recognise it out of a 100

Re: DVX100AP - Dead Pixels.

Got one too....Noticed it when I activated the color bars..otherwise it probably would have gone un-noticed for a while. Kind of bummed as the camera is only 3 weeks old..but c'est la vie. Mine's red! ;D

Since Willougbys is an authorized reseller, they should lookat your camera. If you sent in the warranty card, things get a little sticky but there are ways around this. Please contact me off list, this should be an initial failure.

Best regards,
