Dvx100a with ATR55?

Will the Dvx100a work with the ATR55 shotgun mic, or does the dvx100a only have xlr ports? I got this mic as a gift awhile back and have used it with my other camcorder that has a mic input. I'm ordering the Dvx100a and I was wondering if this mic will work or do I have to get a new one?

I think the DVX can only take xlr. I'm sure you could get an adapter, however.

What kind of input does it use?

It is a little jack that is about the size of a headphone jack. I was wondering if there was an adaptor for it. If anyone knows of an adapter just let me know, it would really help me out.

I've got one just like that. You should be able to find an xlr adapter with cable for it from camera retailers, or even local stores. Just search for xlr adapters for that kind of jack on the mic. (wish I could tell you exactly where to go! Sorry)

I have that same mic, but I can't get it to work evan with the XLR adaptor and whatever setting everybody told me to use... (actually, I only realized it's an ATR 55 about 10 minutes ago when I looked at the name of it... I bought it from some boom mic company that sold it as an add on)

had the same mic as well and tried it on the dvx. it's not that great of a mic... i preferred the dvx internal mic as far as keeping noise out.

I occasionally use an ATR55 with my DVX100b. I bought a 25' phono to XLR cable from Markertek (www.markertek.com) and it works fine. You just have to switch the mic input from internal to input 1 or 2. Yeah, it's not a great mic, but for those of us who spent everything on our DVX, certain sacrifices have to be made.

ok why would you want to use a mini jack mic? you have XLRS thats a good thing....take advantage and get a decent mic.

Honestly, we used ATR55 for a production since we thought it was a "descent mic". But ended up redoing all our audio.

Do a test: record audio with the internal mic, bring it into your NLE and do the same with the ATR55 and compare. I found that the ATR55 picked up more noise making the audio unacceptable. I would test it out first though if I were you. It was a hard learned lesson. good luck
