dvx100A to HVX200 thoughts?

Weird epiphany...

I was just letting my mind wander on what a DVX100B might be...since the general consensus is it won't have native 16:9. What sort of creature could then sustain our imagination and be price competitive within Panasonic line, compete against rivals?

Then it occurred to me. With the HVX200 priced and featured where it is, why not simply keep the 100A--add the 82mm 13x HVX Dicomar--call it the dvx200?

It sounds like a great bridge/transition to me. Same 100A price. Worth the upgrade? Not really an upgrade since the 100/100A share the same aftermarket options. The dvx200 would simply be the new iteration or DV bridge to an HVX camera that in all likelihood will cost more than twice what a dvx200 will cost. So price/feature they don't really compete with one another. And the 13x Dicomar would be a very nice addition...

Any thoughts?

Might as well just buy an HVX200 and use the MiniDV tapes to record SD. It's $6000, yes, much more expensive than the DVX, but it's native 16x9 widescreen and has better overall features.

I think they'll concentrate on the more consumer cameras, like the DVC60, and the HVX for indie films. The DVX is, I believe, going the way of the Dodo in the next year and a half. *sniffle*

I agree--except it's hard for me believe they could make a 100A100B upgrade worth having--even as transitional for a year and a half.

My thinking is that there is still a sizeable population of video and indie people who might not be quite ready for 6k plus ubiquitious add ons that quickly turn 6k into 8k. For them--college people, small time operators--3k street is still reachable. And it can still get to the big screen--albeit not HD.

I think tape will still be viable for 2-3 years--then adios!
