DVX100A Tapes?

Hi, very new to DVX's, mine hasn't even gotten here yet, but I was wondering... is it best to use panny MiniDV's or can I just use any general brand?

You can use pretty much any brand, But I would recomend the panisonic or sony. And try to stay with one brand. I noticed when changing brands your more apt to get a dropped frame here and there. Only on occasion though. Some say it helps to clean the heads when switching brands. There's lots of info out there, just search around.

Since you're getting a 100A, you must have bought used. It probably wouldn't hurt to have the heads professionally cleaned anyway, just to be sure. If you know, or can find out, which tapes the previous owner used, you can pick up where s/he left off.

The difference between Sony and pretty much all other brands is the lubricant used on the tape. Sony uses a wet-type, and all the others use a dry-type. Mix them together and you get goo. One tape isn't going to muck things up too much, but it's a good idea to stick with one type (brand loyalty is really about keeping the same type of tape) and clean thoroughly (DO NOT use cleaning cassettes for this) if you intend to switch.

I'm not sure the lube thing is really all that true (researching it, it seems to be one of those that gets repeated on message boards with no actual evidence), but it doesn't hurt to be cautious, by any means. It's good advice to use a single brand and clean every 50 hours or so, or as needed.
