DVX100a footage to Film or HD

Hello incredible citizens of this great forum, I have a question.

I have searched briefly and can't seem to find a similar thread. However, if this is a repeat question, I apologize.

I am helping to edit what I hope to be a feature length documentary slated for submission to Sundance. The footage was shot on two DVX100a's in 24pa mode. We are editing on FCP 5. My questions are the following: Sundance can project digitally, however it has only projected HD in the past. Is there a way to uprez the SD footage to HD? If so, is this cheaper than a blowup to film (I would imagine so)? Additionally, if we were to eventually blow this up to film, what are the limits as to what we can do digitally while editing? What I mean is, can we color correct and add titles, filters, gradients, etc. to the SD DVX footage in FCP and not have problems with it in converting it to film or HD? I've heard it is a bad idea to color correct footage before blowing it up.

Pardon my ignorance and lack of technical savvy in this area, but any help/advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks to you both for the replies. I spoke with a local guru and came up with basically the following answers. However, further input regarding these questions would still be appreciated.

He suggested for uprezing to HD to go with a card, either a KONA 3 or a Blackmagic:

He said that while software may work, it would take weeks to process a feature length film into HD. Additionally, he said it was the best idea to uprez as soon as possible so we would be working in HD as soon as possible. This way we won't be uprezing graphics or filters we could have made in HD in the first place (does that make sense?). So, I think we will go with one of the cards and uprez our footage now if we have the budget for it.

Regarding my "what will work on film" questions, he said the best way to answer that question would be to speak specifically with the film house that would be doing our blow up. They would explain what we can do on our computer and what we should let them do.

Thanks,

JC
