DVX100A buying questions

Hey everybody-

I've been a lurker here in the forums for a while, but never had a need to post until recently. I'm a film student in search of a decent used DVX as my first foray into prosumer camcorders. I have the opportunity to purchase a DVX100A locally, but the camera has 500 hours on the heads. So:

Assuming that the camera has been professionally owned/operated, is such a high number of hours still something I should be concerned about?

Assuming that the camera is in good condition, what would be an appropriate price to purchase this camera for?

Thanks in advance

hmmm thats quite a few hours. Maybe 1500 bucks or so.... I would look into buying a firestore fs-4 for this camera so as to not use the heads much more.

Maybe you'ld be better off buying a new DVX-100B instead. They are getting back on the shelf after being out of stock for a while. Just got mine. :)

I agree on the DVX100B. Many features which make it preferable to the 100A...check out our very own Barry Green's piece on why.

I would stick to eBay to save some bucks. So long as the seller has 100% rating, and the 100B includes everything it should, you will be fine. I bought both of my DVX's on eBay and have had no problems. Cinematographers and directors baby their DVXs so they usually last a long time. Put the savings into audio and lighting or a good tripod.

Here's one that looks good.

And here is one to avoid...clearly a "gray market" item, since it doesnt include Barry's book or Red Giant software, as U.S. models do.
