i've been having similar probs, the "auto off. s-reel lock" message comes on intermittently and i have not been able to transfer footage to the pc smoothly, ppro keeps hanging about every 60 seconds, i tried cleaning with a panasonic cleaning tape to no avail. i am thinking of sending for head clean. would appreciate any comments thanks.
You are going to need to send in your cameras to a reapair center to get them fixed. It's not a user-serviceable problem
On a side note... afram; THANK YOU for (I presume searching and) continuing an old thread with the same topic and not just starting a new redundent one.
okay some great news for me, first up i thought up a simple way of diagnosing if it's a tape mechanism problem or firewire problem causing the drop-outs: place camera on 'camera mode' and perform firewire transfer of live footage, if there are dropouts and problems it means you DON'T have a tape problem (like dirty heads etc) cos if the video is going straight to your PC and u still get drop-outs it can't be the tape or tape heads causing the drop-outs
the problem as it turned out for me was a faulty cable (never had problems with it before!), so i am going to swear by gold plated high quality cables from now on!
i am also going to be very careful connecting the cable to the camera so as not to damage the contact pins that's for sure!
also i would use the ferrite cores that the camera came with, i suppose panasonic would not have thrown that in for nothing!
I was geeting the "AUTO OFF - S REEL LOCK" message, during cue-rew in playback mode, with new and old tapes, but tapes were never chewed.
Took it for a service.
What they did was: adjusting, cleaning and lubing.
Now everything works well.
Kinski Zg, is your "Zg" stand for Zagreb/Croatia or ?
hey, I got the same problem with my camera and I have just five months since I bought it, and I haven't use it that often. ( i record a wedding, some test footage, and a short five minute scene). And I've never let it fall or drop. how did you fix your problem.
