Yes, all HD cameras need more light. The DVX100 is more light sensitive than the HD cameras in the sub $10k price range I believe. Investing in lights and mics is a good idea as well if you didn't previously have that stuff. Do you have a good tripod? These are all additional expenses you have to consider. An HVX will run you quite a bit of money after you buy camera, tripod, mic (even if only a shotgun), carry case, P2 card. A DVX on the other hand, you'd be able to purchase some accessories.
Oh and the XH-A1 paid for itself, because I was hired to shoot an indie feature with it and I got about $3k. I also sold my DVX, so there wasn't really much of a difference but if I hadn't it was pretty close to clearing the cost of my XH-A1.
