AC160 DVX100 Mic Holder compatible with AC160?

I purchased an AC160 on eBay a few days ago for a really good deal, the auction was for the camera body and no accessories. I have already purchased some batteries and a charger (aftermarket). I plan to get the original Charger and AC soon. What i wanted to know is can I use the shotgun holder from a DVX100 or a DVC80 on the AC160? I know the eyecup is interchangeable. Thanks for the help.

The only way to find out is ask Panasonic or find someone who will dismount their DVX100 or a DVC80 mic holder and 1) measure the hole to hole distance and 2) somehow tell you what the thread size is. It would be a shame to try to mount the holder on your camera using screws with a different thread size.

I removed my holder - I have two Rode Mics (Videomic and VideoMic Pro) - neither fit nicely in the holder. I have heard that the holder does not work that great for long shotgun mics (they show up in the videos unless you move them back and then, of course you have a weight imbalance). All of these little details detract from smooth use of a camera system.

I won't buy any more mics that have a 3.5 mm pin connector - the manufacturers say inserting a converter in no way deteriorates the sound but I just prefer XLR connectors and the way they lock in.

Right now I have a Tascam recorder where the XLR works "too" well. It locked in and will not release. I spent hours trying to figure out (in the absence of a repair manual) how to take the unit apart and release the XLR from the interior only to conclude it's easier to just leave two XLR male-to-mail connectors permanently plugged into the Tascam.

Thanks kwkeirstead I actually have a Rhode NTG2 but i'm thinking about getting an Audio-Technica AT875 Short Condenser Shotgun Microphone. Do you want to sell your mic mount? Lol thanks for your input.

Hey Walter

The Rode Videomic works perfectly in the AC-160 mic clamp...just remove the Rode suspension (two screws under the body) and then clamp the 130 holder around the Rode right up against the body on the round section with the back body section hanging vertically then push the foam cover back on...no noise and a secure stable mount...I was actually looking for a simple mount for my 80's and ended up modifying two GoPro handlebar clamps ..they work well too..I got tired of the rubber bands breaking and jumping off

I have answered my own question, The mic holder from a DVC-80 worked perfect on the AC160 so the DVX holder would certainly work. I was luck because a friend of mine never mounted his mic holder on his DVC80 and he still had it sealed in the bag 8 years later. He gave it to me and it works great. I am in love with my AC160.
