DVX100 making strange static sound in camera mode

Hello everyone. We're in the middle of filming a production and all of a sudden, yesterday, the DVX100 we've been using the entire time has started to make a strange static fuzz sound whenever it's in camera mode. Naturally, this is causing us serious problems. The sound isn't picked up by the mic, yet it continually fluctuates, making us think something may be wrong with the internal speaker. This sound disappears whenever the camera is in VCR mode. Has anyone had this problem before? Or does anyone know any tips or ideas on how to counteract this? We could send it off for repair, or use another camera, but we've already filmed quite a bit with this one and it would be miraculous if we could somehow get that pesky sound to go away. We tried changing audio settings, volume, but it didn't affect the sound at all. And it persists even when headphones are plugged in...

Edit: I just also wanted to add that obviously we disconnected all mics to test this. Adding mics/removing them does not affect the sound in any way.

Do you hear it on both mic and line settings? (switch on front of camera).
How about when you switch from external to internal (settings on camera body when LCD is open)?
Is the sound actually coming from the speaker?

Thank you, joot and kplo, for your replies. Let me answer each post.

First of all, resetting factory settings did not change anything, unfortunately.

Next, the sound is heard on both mic AND line settings. It is also heard on both external and internal settings.

Is the sound actually coming from the speaker? It's hard to tell. But it's always persistent and randomly fluctuates.
