DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

It really seems to favor the red in most lighting conditions. Soft oranges tend to be Crayola Red-Orange. This can be adjusted by lowering chroma levels and whatnot, but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this at standard settings -- or if it's just my model.

Re: DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

I needed to set my chroma phase to -4 to adjust the reds into their proper vectors on a waveform/vectorscope. Also cine matrix tends to warm things up comapared to the non cinematrix settings so yo umight want to play with those as well.

Re: DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

I have read of others setting chroma phase to -4 based on vector scope readings. This is probably the nature of the beast.

Just wanted to bump this one up a few notches!

Re: DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

Yeah. Sometimes the other (non-red) colors need to be resaturated in post a little, but that helps tame the red.

distracted by sofa kings avatar. what were we talking about?

Re: DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

Are we talking Chroma PHASE or LEVEL? I've heard both mentioned in the thread.

Re: DVX100 -- A Bolshevik Conspiracy?

Jubal28,
Hot reds are a standard "feature" on this camera. Although (IMHO) the 100/100A has the best color rendition of any camera in it's class, reds can easily read WAY over 100 on a vectorscope and need to be brought down in post to a more NTSC friendly 83-85.
If you edit in Vegas, there is a great free plug in called aav6cc
that will nicely reduce the red vector (or any other) without affecting much of anything else. Works great for recovering the chroma detail lost to those red blow outs.
Adjusting chroma phase in camra compromises the whole picture in that direction (as viewed on a vectorscope).
I prefer to correct the offending element in post...ymmv.
Hope this helps.

I know. This topic was started a year and a half ago when I was still familiarizing myself with the camera (and had just joined the board). Heck, it was before the 100A.

Though it's interesting to discover the quirks of every camera. The original 100 also has that black line down the right side of the image (which the 100A eliminated). Sony cams tend to favor blue, and the XL2, surprisingly, favors green (leading me to wonder if it's an overzealous compensation for its own nascent red push).
