DVX with Letus are Rods optional?

I'm going to purchase the Letus extreme for my DVX, however the rod system is like 400 bucks! Is it necessary to buy the rod support if I wont be using large lenses? Will it balance on a tripod?

You need rods. The Letus... any 35mm adapter, actually... adds way too much weight to the front of the camera and risks stripping the mount on the camera's lens.
 
if you don't want to spend too much money on rods you can buy other brands.
just make sure you buy the 15mm rod support.
cavision has some cheaper rod support and they are good quality.
or you can try ebay.

yeah, you should be fine with a short rod if you plan to only use the adapter. you would only want longer rods if you wanted to use a Follow focus or a matte box.
