What did he do in After Effects? Other than the reflection in the mirror and the butterfly, it seems most everything could be done in the average NLE. Also, I'm not familiar with the DSR570. If they used that, or for that matter the PD150, how did they achieve the film look? Was the film lookcreated in post in After Effects?
Not sure what cam he was using, but on his site it does say something about their 'progressive scan technology'. Anyway, beautiful footage. Beautiful framing, beautiful wedding video, beautiful paycheck....
Yup Loi is a very talented individual, I know he used a Sony shoulder cam that shoots natively in 16x9. I believe that camera is the Sony DSR570. Last I heard he used a Canon XL1 for his balcony cam. He does appreciate the DVX, but who doesn't I know he uses Apples, pretty sure he uses FCP and of course After Effects.
As I always say, that the learning curve is MUCH steeper for production-based people to learn and create this type of stuff, than it is for post people. Of course, that's if you're a one-man show. These guys probably have a dedicated staff for certain things, and can afford to do it. Any editor, compositor, or annimator can pick up a DV camera and with the aid of some post wizardry, can a lot of times just point and shoot and impress the hell out of people.
The photography is slightly above average at best in my opinion, but everyone's wowed overall because of good editing and effects, let alone what looks to be 3D CGI butterflies. I realize you can't do much with lighting in event videography, but the compositions aren't really that impressive either. (not that every frame has to be a Rembrandt)
This is the best wedding stuff I've seen, but it just illustrates and reinforces my opinion stated above.
I should have been a rich editor instead of an unemployed cameraman.
Yes, but you have to admit that a few shots have the look of a wedding sequence from a major motion picture (I particularly think of the bride on the balcony and later dashing from the room in slow motion - and a few other places).
