ok im new to this site but im sure this has been ask a million times but i need to know which to buy so im going to ask it again (sry) the canon Xl2 or the Panasonic DVX100B? everyone keeps telling me that the DVX is a better camera but from test footage ive seen it either looks like a home movie or has a 35mm adapter.

i don't have enough money for a xh a1 or an HVX (wish i did) or any camera that can film in HD so please dont bring them up it makes me sad

Either camera works just fine. Neither will give you the automatic film look. They cost about the same used so you can't go wrong with either one.

I was in you shoes two years ago.... but then i decided for the XL2; i really like the shape and size more (sometimes appearence count) than the dvx. Is a bit less wide angle than the dvx but i shot at least 5 short without needing a wide angle lens. The best thing you can do is to try both and see what works better for you.

I also had to choose, but since I'm an Indy filmmaker, I had to go with the 16x9 CCD (anamorphic) of the XL2. Wide screen is not standard on the DVX. The XL2 is an amazing camera and I really like it (after 2 years still like it). I use a wide-angle adaptor for wide shots. If you do your setup correctly, you will get and images that is very close to film.
