just uploaded 4 hours of dvx footage and when i bring it into final cut pro it seems to be smaller than the safety frame. i am editing dvx footage with my canon xha1 i realize the video quality of the a1 is going to be greater but why is it that the dvx footage wont fill up the widescreen frame or even the safety letterbox frame. and when i zoom in it dramatically distorts the image?

anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.
My import setting for the dvx are 720x480 or something.

If you're editing with a HD timeline, the DVX footage is going to smaller, yes, and zooming in will degrade the quality, especially compared to HD footage from the A1.

SD DVD no theatres. video is for dvd planned on compressing it with compressor? this is an outdoor wedding i shot this summer with xha1 & dv100b 29.97
I feel like i am missing a step do i need to compress my hd footage?

bring down the HD footage to SD and work on an SD timeline. In FCP, you would go to Audio/Video settings, then Sequence Settings, then select DV NTSC.

Thanks Man, got it figured out on a new sequence. is it possible to have it change the sequence i've been working on or do I need to start on a new sequence with the new Sequence Setting DV NTSC

ok my dvx footage is at 100 percent frame rate. my hd is at 58 i believe. does this mean i can zoom all the way to 100 with out loosing quality or pixels?

Did you shoot letterbox or squeeze? Letterbox is a 4:3 image with superimposed black bars. If you shot squeeze they should match no problem. I don't know though because I have never edited HD.
