43 next month....and it's nice there seems to be some more "experienced" folks in the forum. I'm glad there are others who remember that "cutting and pasting" was, well, actually cutting and pasting (whether audio tape or film).

Cheers,

Tim

All the greatest films ever made were with film anyways.

Well, of course that's true.
Then again, it's only true because film has been around for about 100 years.
Video is only now being taken seriously - and it's still got an uphill battle at that.

Give it another 100 years.

42 years and counting. I am the ultimate answer to the ultimate question. I agree with Joe, its too bad that so many young people on this board have never shot on film, it really makes you appreciate what has come along in just the last couple of years. I still have all my old super8 gear and some of my old 16mm gear. I loving look after it but I know it won't see much action anymore.
"Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed, the ability to capture an image digitally is insignificant next to the power of film."

"I for one welcome our new ant overlords." Kent Brockman.

Im 21 and have gone to New York Film Academy, In NYC and yes while shooting a film is now pratically to shoot on DV, at the NYFA, we shot on 16mm ariflex cameras, taughts us the basics of film, and expousure, and development, and the basics of filmmaking, definatly what i took out of there has helped me Post film school....
life after 40, hmmm i think im gonna look forward to that....

I'm in the under 18-club, and I'll stay there for another four years :) Should I enjoy it?

Ahhhhh, I remember 14, it seems like yesterday, dreaming of space travel and in door toilets. I think I have underwear older than that, and not the new fancy digital underwear, i'm talking analog stuff, to me it just feels better against the bottom.

40 (1965 is starting to sound like a long time ago)

..and I've never cut audio tape or film, and I do know how good I have it! :-)

Can you imagine cutting (literally with a razor or cutting tool, then taping back together) and mixing 40 distinct and different tracks of audio?? ..or in some of the extreme film cases, thousands of hours of film.... AND keeping track of all that information on index cards or note paper!

Fortunately, as we found out with music and is also true for film, ease of access to tools will not make a non-artist an artist, it just means there's a lot more mediocre output to plow through before you get to the good stuff (who knows, maybe my stuff might end up being some of the mediocre stuff, I hope not, but the jury's still out as I'm still in my first year with "film"/tape/moviemaking)
