My 40's are JUST like my 20's... except I'm just a tad slower, and not QUITE as stupid...

Life begins at 40, something you pre-30 folks are going to be very pleasantly surprised with, trust me. For the wise, age means everything wonderful.

"Skill, wisdom, and experience will ALWAYS overcome youth, speed, and power."

Life is good...

i'm only 20, but i've been editing on FCP since i was a soph in highschool...

Lord, you have a very rude awakening, my boy. Enjoy it, cause even if you live to 100, it'll all still end sooner than you think.

36, but incredibly immature -- I feel more like 14 or 15.

I remember shooting on film (still have my super-8's in storage somewhere), and recording onto 2" tape (though we used an Akai sampler locked to timecode on the tape for audio editing -- we weren't barbarians!)

Do I miss those days? Absolutely not! I have fond memories, but better things are still to come. We're just beginning to use technology in a useful and meaningful way, and it's only going to get better in the future. The 10's are going to make the 00's look like the 50's.

54 (and still got the bug) started in film great training ground in learning about camera basics you know all the usual stuff exposure camera angles etc. etc. etc
the main one i learned very fast was make every single shot count due to the filmstock. then came video which i think now is slowly creeping up with the hd etc
(so you young ones think yourselves lucky to have great kit on the market. and a great forum site like this one to pick on peoples knowledge in me days there was not a lot...i sound like a dinosaur) i was lucky my ambition which started as a hobby was to work in films or television ( no doubt a lot of peoples desire) and through hard work patience and skill done it so me dream came true (well not quite never won the lottery) so good on you young ones...from the dinosaur

damn, we got some old farts still kicking it . I'm 17 but have already used almost every camera of popular demand out there right now. vx1000, vx2000, vx2100, gl1, gl2, dv30, dvx100, dvx100a/b, fx1, pd150, pd170, and some betacams.

I can't wait till im 55 though. As long as all you 40+ guys on here look like this:

You're fine in my book.

I can't believe it! I thought for sure I was going to feel bad when I first clicked on this thread. I expected a bunch of high school kids. Instead, I find a boat load of professionals of all ages.

I'll be 50 this May.

So I'm enjoying saying I'm 49 for another 119 days, 17 hours and 29 seconds!

Is that Stanley at the end of his days? All hail the great "Q"brick.

"Jet exhaust flying chickens in the barn yard."

40 with a wife, three daughters 4, 7 & 9, a dog (boxer named Foreman) and two cats, Spaz (old and cranky) & Star (young and a "roofcat") and a full-time job with "da cops" as a civvie.

It's good to see people my age out there "doing it." I've been DJing weddings for almost a decade and decided to move to the visual field last year, not the least because I dig the shooting, cutting and delivery of material that makes people give the compliments. Yes, I am a needy attention-whore who needs constant affirmation.

I'm picking up my pair of "B"s in two months and then it's off to this year's dance recitals, weddings and more. No more rentals. Yay!

...and yes, I do rmember using the old razor blade and tape to edit audio back in my radio days. What a difference technology makes. Some people claim it's an homogenization (sp?) but I like to think it's a great populism that allows anyone to make great images if they choose to. There's the rub. Choosing as opposed to just accepting what you're doing as "meh, it'll do."

Cheers to you all, regardless of your age.

sincerely,

ian

HS Sophomore - 15

Bought my very own DVX about 4-5 months ago, getting an Intel iMac in the summer!

Been editing/filming since about the 7th grade....

A spoiled 19 year old who has had far too many great job opportunities in the last year than could possibly be healthy for a person of that age.

Especially if he wants to finish college next year.

I'm 29, i dont have a dvx100 yet, but ive been saving up for it now a few years, hopefully i will be able to get one soon..

Hi I'm 48 and been mad about video since I was a kid but could never afford it.
When I was younger you had to pay about 2200 euros for a camcorder, now you can get one for about 450 euros (400 dollars). That makes a huge difference. Not to mention the improvement in quality. The very fact that there are DV films shown in cinemas on film shows you how far we've come.
Now with HD we can probably come to a situation where finally the only thing that counts is TALENT not how much money you have.
