That could be the dumbest question I've ever heard on these forums. That's like: gas pedal? brake? steering wheel? do these things matter? I just want to drive:crybaby:

Buy Barry's Book, research, and learn.

That's all I have to say.

hey buddy, i just got it, my first good camera, u think im gunna no wut they are? u dont gutta be like that, so im guessing u do need to have them set right?

Those are all in the manual and have been discussed here many times over in great detail. Yes those settings matter. As far as making your quality better, there a million things from lighting, to composition to editing, to color correction/grading, to audio, to talent, and of course all of those settings. There is no high quality setting for this or any camera. Somedays I need my pedestal high, somedays need it low. Same goes for most of the other settings. Barry's book is worth a million dollars and explains these in detail while maintaining a certain ease of reading so not everything goes over your head. The films you see here that look good and professional generally are the ones where no aspect was overlooked and all were well executed. Dont be shy about asking questions, but do your research first or you will get answers like "search" or read the manual/barry's book guaranteed. While I love this board to death it should be known that no one gets hand holding and you are expected to do some research to get your answers. No free milk from this cow.

Many people have had the same questions with their new cameras. Many people have also done some research and had those questions answered. Do yourself and all of us a favor - next time, try SEARCH before you post. Posting without looking first just creates more clutter.

Settings are important.... just like patience and research. It's also hard to diagnose something as vague as it "isn't the 'best'".
