I shoot in 30P with my Dvx and edit in After Effects CS3

What are the best settings to shoot in to get the best quality?
example: scene files, shots are coming out grainy, etc

What should my composition settings be in After Effects be
example: canvas size, timeline

please help, Ive been shooting a lot lately and all my clips hav been comming out grainy and crappy looking on my comp and tv

that looks like dvx footage man, the dvx isnt hd its going to have some grain. Check your gain settings, maybe up the detail coring, VBR 2 pass when rendering.

I upload all of my footage in WMV format, would Uploading in Quicktime or something else change the quality in a positive way and if so how can I change th format

Maybe dial the iris down just a touch and try not to shoot towards the bright sky, the footage looked a bit too hot to me. Good work though! Keep it up. For me, it just took a lot of experimenting with settings and a ton of reading to come up with a look that I was happy with.

To get the DVX to really shine you are going to have to do a lot of trial and error. You can get great images but lighting, settings, compression, etc., etc., have to be right. It is not HD but that really doesn't mean a thing in right hands.
