I have been following this one and have looked forward to seeing it near completion.

I love it. There's not too much subjectively to say as I really think you did a grabd job; the band should be proud. I do have (2) items that did not work for me personally.

The sequence where the young lady get's to the turnstyle and has trouble getting through it isn't working for me visually. I like the idea and concept; but something about the shot selection doesnt seem to flow.

When the band goes into the bridgeit doesnt seem to match; guitarist is jumping around like Pete Townsend and it doesnt seem to beolong together with the music.

That's it; other than that; Bravo!

I particualy loved the shot of the band seated on bedside as camera circles them.

Heh, another user on this forum (Loki) said the same thing about that first turnstyle shot...tell me if you like this one better, this was the original, I just liked throwing in extra cuts...on the beat.

Than the one in the video is:

I disagreed with Loki because some girl told me that the way I used is better, but I trust you more than I trust her, and the more I disagree with Loki the more I am disagreeing because I don't want to be wrong :). So I will probably change it back...

The good thing is is this is a rough cut...

Can you guys tear apart the ending with the two on the subway communicating through the glass?
That's the stuff I want shredded so I know what to do with it...I'm at a loss.

Wow ... this has really come a long way ... good job, bro.

Cool transitions, shots (DOF switchbacks) and framing. There were some neat little subtle things that I liked a lot (the red light on the subway, sigh language, etc.).

Couple comments:
- The chorus out: drums don't match up at all,
- End shot: Tattooed head (tattoo is cool) but looks too intentional ... like "check out my head and my painted nails": neither of which we saw anywhere else in the vid.

Other than that .. it rocked dood!!

Yeah, the sign language is the singers idea...and I hate it...

I particularly like the last two shots the most (the crane shots)...so yeah, they're in. And the angel isn't symbolic or anything, it's just neato I guess...

Good way to end the video...originally, the lead singer was going to throw a white sheet from the bed onto the camera to end it but we didn't have a white sheet, so we came up with that shot. I like it better.

My biggest question deals with the pacing of it at the end...I feel it's too quick.
GIVE FEEDBACK ON THAT PLEASE :)

The girl had a killer Rack...

focus that is...

and yes.. the original turnstyle edit was far superior.. stop adding edits for the sake of adding edits!

I agree with you, the sign language thing is absolutely retarded. but alas.. what can ya do.

the zoom at the end is the only other thing that needs to be changed in my opinion. have him just fall to his knees.. or have him on his knees already when you cut to that shot.. you are cutting from a fast zoom to the slow finale shot... too jarring.

cheers,
Your local Norse God,
Loki

Thanks Norse God!

BTW, I was told by a teacher that shooting real money is a federal offense. Problem is, I couldn't find any REAL looking fake money so I just left the shot in there...

Am I going to get in trouble for that?

If you did use fake money you'd have to make it seem real on camera, and if you did that then how would you prove it WASN'T real if it turned out to actually be a problem? Given that, there's nothing to stop you from using REAL money and later on saying it wasn't real... that you just faked it.

Sounds like some sort of urban legend or something.

Your video looks very nice! Great look to it all around and very nice shots as well. I'm just not feeling the song too much. MAybe I'm just getting old but this "emo-core" or what have you is getting a little out of hand. I dont get the certain style of screamed vox that Ive been hearing on here and a few other videos here with a similar style to this song.

I agree with the others on the ending and falling to the knees. I love seeing the guy through the windows as the train leaves. Do you happen to have him falling to his knees from that angle? That'd be cool to see him drop out of sight then be able to cut to him on his knees.

Personal quibble: when bald guy really starts to let loose with the yelling "I am not" stuff towards the end the emotion is there in the close ups (CU on his face in limbo), but when it shows him rolling around on the bed yelling the same stuff something just isn't there. Probably just depends on the viewer though.

I like the closing shot. If it were some random person's tattoo I'd be more inclined to recommend losing it, but as is I think it's valid.

Don't know if it's been brought up yet. But who's the guy in the shot when the cam circles the band on the bed? You can see a guy in the far left as the cam reaches the girl band member.

Other than that I really enjoyed the video.

man, thats pretty cool.

i cant BELIEVE you pulled off the smoke in that room! and it doesnt look cheesy!

its awesome good job.

Yeah, since we were in studio for that it was an unbelievable pain in the ass to get that smoke working right. We didn't have enough to fill the studio and work from there so we'd spray it and then quickly shoot it.

I have an outtakes reel that I'll post at the end of this message if you want to see some outtakes and unused footage.

That was actually one of the guitarists girlfriends. She was my slate since we didn't have any crew at that point. She was smoking the background and supposed to run out the door, I must have missed her when shooting. What the heck, it's a nice cameo.

I wish I had him falling to his knees. It's funny, I shot the falling to the knees thing an entire month after shooting the through the train shot. It took just under 2 months total to shoot (four different dates) and I forgot to get some shots early so you can clearly see his hair is longer in some shots than others.

I'll look at your quibble, see if I need to alleviate it.

The song is terrible, but it's infectious...if you hear it a couple of times you'll find yourself going "I am not...who I promised..." as you walk around. It's annoying.

It's funny, I went to lunch with the two actors after we did the last shoot on Friday and they were talking about all this emo crap and I budged in saying, "Why is there so many of these bands? No one even listens to them" And then I got an earful about how one emo band sold 150,000 albums in the states which is huge and it's going to be the next big thing, yadda yadda yadda.

Personally, I think they need to figure out what they want to do in life. They're not all rock stars.

Okay, I like the way you think. I was just thinking of saying "It's fake, prove it isn't" and using that as my argument, but I can't imagine it being a federal offense. Screw my teacher for telling me that...screw him and his stupid 'lessons'.

10 posts so far and no one has talked about the footage at the end...the pacing, the shots, etc. That's what I need to know about...personally I hate it and want to gut it. But if no one complains, then I have no reason to :(.

Anyway, here is the link for that video...

If you don't want it in there, then take it out. You don't need other people to tell you that. You've already made up your mind and you're just looking for further validation. If you approached the question with the sense that you're unsure about the ending (and had no strong feelings either way towards it), then it would be different.

Cool I'm glad you kinda feel the same way. I'm new here so i didnt want to slam the song too much but i thought it was really bad and the guys drums sound like total dump. just my opinion. All though becoming "emo" and wearing a white belt some tight clothes a crooked trucker hat and some cool arm tats would probably get you a deal these days over having good music.

Yeah, I'm just overly critical because it's my stuff and need assurance that it works. I don't WANT to remove it, but I feel I should.

If only I could go back in time and rephrase the question...Hmm...

first of all, good video. It felt very professional. As good or better than your average MTV video. My question is regarding the image quality. The entire thing looked very filmic. And that to me was impressive. The *one* shot, however, that looked very video-y, was the first close-up of him lying on the bed (to start the video). It looked too crisp, too clear. I was expecting more of the same, but never saw it again. Did you do something different on that shot? Why does it look different?

Hey there.

I don't know why it looks like that...might just be the compression. I'll take a look to see what you mean, it might just be the blown out light that is making it crisp. Not too sure.

Some really nice stuff in this video. Not sure if there's anything left to criticize. Looks good to me! Good luck!
