DVX. Magicbullet and a girl

wait, if you're in NYC, then where was that shot? I mean at least it doesn't look like manhattan but then again me living in the city, if you shot in the burroughs I probably wouldn't recognize it anyways, hmm....

I believe that is the Verrezano Bridge. Looks to me like it was shot in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn or that general direction, anyway.

FANTASTIC..... there are a few clips in this section that I watch again and again and this will be one of them!!!

What settings and other equipment did you use?

My only critical bit is that the blank screen at the start lasts a bit too long.

Regards Indy.....

DV,

This is a very interesting piece. Nicely edited to the music and has an introspective quality to it. Nice shots. The only thing I'd advise you to watch is your horizon lines. They are off in a bunch of shots and it doesn't look natural. In other words, it doesn't look like you intentionally did that and to my eye, it compromises the shot.

Other than that, you have some nice looks and your subject is a natural in front of the camera.

Good work.

thanks Indy. Glad it keeps you watching. I posted the specs for everything the page before this. check it out.
and good point disjecta. would you mind pointing out which ones? I know for starters the shot where she walks and stops by the water and tree is crooked and seems like the boat is moving upwards...
but im interested in what you mean. thanks for checking it out.

Ya know last night I woke up at like 5 in the morning and I was all tired and in a daze and I came on here (habit I guess :)) and watched this and the whole thing was surreal and strange. The next day I bought coldplay's cd and can't stop listening to it :). Nice job with this experiment, I think coldplay owes you some money for getting me hooked. heh

haha... surreal. yeah, i wonder what it looked like to you- the video is a bit random and dreamy.
coldplay always delivers moods.

heh well keep up the good work, I've got all of this random footage on my comp of my bro's gf's cabin and I play coldplay to it and its amazing how much meaning it gives it. Thats it Im buying a synthesizer and Im gonna go make some music!

when i first got my dvx (last september) I had no idea how to use the camera. I didn't know what depth of field is or what over exposing is. I got frustrated until the end november/ I started out with alot of montages. Lots. when I saw your clip, I had a flashback of my old work.
http://www.studiorb.com/musicvids/story.htm
its a montage of a girl walking around with a music track in the background.I kinda went crazy with the MB. everything is pretty much random. I don't think your video is cheesy at all. wait til you see this one lol. good job!

DV,

Here's the more obvious shots with crooked horizon lines...

00:00:30
00:01:07
00:01:35
00:01:38
00:02:56

The other shots where you are traveling with the camera and the horizon line is off do not bother me at all because it's to be expected.

Anyway, what I have pointed out is not a big deal but definitely something to keep in mind the next time you go out shooting. It's always worth the extra minute it takes to properly balance the camera.

hiro, your movie doesn't work. maybe it's my browser. I'll try firefox...

thanks disjecta. I see what you mean. you're right, and I was in a bit of a hurry.. raining too. always appreciate your advice.

Great Song

Great Song

Hey dvpixl,

I remember hearing from some famous director, "The visuals should stand on there own. A good soundtrack should be used to compliment the visuals in the film." Anyways, I think by using this song by cold play you've taken this piece up a notch.

There were some parts I didn't like. The shaky handheld shot with the yellow filter following her along the waterfront. The shot on the bench in the parking lot with the cars going by in the background distracted me from the overall mood. I didn't like the shots of her playing with the leaf, because it just blew back to her. If it would have taken to the wind and then you were able to catch it or another leaf in flight and tie that to another scene it would have had it's place. I really disliked the scene of her fighting with the umbrella. Again this takes me away from the mood of the piece. The very next shot though was superb! Her face half covered by the umbrella with some excellent framing. I disliked any and all zooming that was kept in the final edit.

There were a lot of shots I did like. I really liked the slow pan across the water to the girl on the bench with the wind blowing through her hair. I really liked all the long shots from behind her looking out into the harbor. These were excellent because you used the sky to get the foreground that dark contrasting look. I like the shot where she walks towards the camera to out of view. I liked most of the close up shots and the shot along the metal fence with her out of focus in the background.

Overall I think there are some great scenes, and some pretty bad/mediocre scenes. I hope you find this well. I'm trying to be honest. I wish there was more of a storyline and some major editing done. The soundtrack is really what makes this piece enjoyable for me.

Ever since a post a while back that said we only say great things about the DVX and peoples work I try hard to give constructive criticism. I personally am kind of surprised by all the amazing things said about this piece. I remember all the buzz about the "schoolgirls" post a while back and all the horny guys commenting on 2-3 grabs. "Sex sells" is really true. I am by no way knocking your work dv. I think you have some excellent scenes within this piece, but it definitely needs work I think.

I saw your video last week but just now writing about it. Don't ask.

This was a beautiful video to watch and, because of you, that Coldplay song has now become my favorite (prior it was The Scientist). BUT, as you know. the shots get a little repetitive after a while. As a music video it doesn't work very well, but as a showcase of magic bullet, the girl, and your fimmaking talents, it works VERY well. Which was your intention. You said "just havin some fun". Wish my vids were as good as your goofin around stuff. Geez! It's like disjecta recording a beautiful swan, but when I record the same swan it looks like an ugly duckling. I hate talented people.

Good stuff DVpixl.

haha. thanks PK. that's a cool song. i rike it alot.

check out part two. ill be posting soon. real soon.

PK,

What you lack in art you more than make up for in heart pk! Hey, I just made a rhyme. Your work with the Thai kids is inspirational. I find living here in the USA it's kind of hard to become selfless. The mentality in general is "I want more". People will remember you for who you are, not how many blockbusters you make with the DVX.

Normally I don't like thread hi-jacks, but this one is looking pretty good! :)

This site, and all of you, have been a huge inspiration. Good people, doing good things, and following their dreams. What more do you need?

Thanks. I'm humbled by your words.

:)

I'm sorry, but I have to bring up a little criticism. :(

I was missing a story in this.

There's this girl. She sits down, gets up, walks around. In between, she sits down a hundred times, gets up a hundred times and walkes around about 25000 miles.

What's the story?

I can't even tell what mood she is in. Is she sad? Sometimes it looks like it. Sometimes not.

Besides all the nice pictures, all the nice postwork, besides gamma, colors and all that stuff, I think a film (movie, shortfilm, musicvideo, etc.) should always tell an interesting story.

I was missing that completly.

Otherwise very nice work.

regards,
Oli

the clip posted is test footage for the camera and post filter effects. correct me if im wrong but there's no "story" here to be found...
