DVX case query

Re: DVX case query

I have it and love it. I use less expensive cases for all my accessories, but this case is very nice for the camera and some basics. It's VERY rugged...you won't be dissapointed.

Re: DVX case query

Looks legit. Use something like for a beta cam at work. Pelican's are just as secure and at case4less on the internet, you can get it half the price.

Look around and shop. I personally use the Pelican 1550- it's perfect for my camera, mattebox, two batteries, charger, screw driver, adaptor ring - I have little slots for each item that fits securely.

Re: DVX case query

thanks, everyone, and thanks enterdcable,
how snugly does the cam fit in your pelican?
i like the panasonic because of the precut slot for the cam, looks much more supportive and cushioned than the inside of the pelican, but i wouldn't know really.
thanks for the tip.

Re: DVX case query

You can cut into the foam to make a nice bed for your DVX. Awhile back, someone posted a nice set of dimensions for the cuts you should make so that it fits snug.

Re: DVX case query

We have done commercial work for Hardigg Storm Case, and use their cases exclusively.  I've used Pelican, Zero-Halliburton, Anvil and the rest and like these the best.  The im2700 is the Pelican 1600 equivalent.

You can buy them through my buddy, Nathan Hindman if you like - he outfitted our expediton last summer:

Re: DVX case query

I would buy the pelican over the Dosko's. I have a bunch of the Dosko's and they are good for lighter stuff, but the handle is mounted by simple screws from inside the case mounting into the resin handle. I put about 15 pounds of stuff in one and the first time I picked it up to carry it, the handle fell off sending my computer and drives sailing. I haven't had any other problems with them , and cases4less was great and sent me another one right away. but I'm still a bit leary, waiting for the handles to come off again (even though the sales person said that it's never happened before). The nice thing about the panny case is that it has a solid metal band wrapped around it that holds mounting points and such, so it's very solid.

Anyway, my two cents is Dosko for lighter things and step up in price for the Pelican or panny for the most important gear. ;D

Re: DVX case query

I use pelicans. They're pressure proof (well at least they have purge valves for air pressure regulation), will float with 200lbs of gear in them (supposedly), and solid as a rock. Add to that they're not bright yellow with a dv cinema logo on the side (steal me, please!), and they're cheaper.

Re: DVX case query

i have almost a dozen of the hardig's

they are made better than pelican. i have a few pelicans...but i strongly prefer the stormcase. better fit/function of latches.

about half their original style and the other half the new stormcase.

they are manufactured like 15 miles from me so i get a killer discount.

i have one for my dvx.

i haven't been using the dvx one much, its more for bringing it on a plane than local trips but its great.

at their custom shop they did the foam out for me.

see how much you can get a storm case for and i can see how much the guy charges to do the foam out.

Re: DVX case query

yeah, those storm cases look nice.

what's the smallest i can go for cam, batteries, a few tapes, etc...?
the smaller the better.

looks like about $80-$100 for the case.
dope.
thanks everyone.

Re: DVX case query

If you scroll down to the bottom of Pangaea's Storm Case page, you'll see four of our yellow im2100 boxes in a boat.

These cases are very small - about the size of a Pelican 1300 if memory serves?

We put the DVX in one im2100; batts., charger, raw / used stock in a second; matte box, filters and 1st assistant's gear in a third case. We did this for portability and stowage in the back of our Land Rovers. Once we got back home, the entire kit indicated above went into a single im2700 case.

We used bright yellow so we wouldn't leave any cases behind in the jungle - we had gear everywhere - but the black and OD green ones are beautiful too. The trek carried three first-responder kits in orange cases as well.

I can't say enough good about these cases - in fact, Pelican has completely re-engineered their valves and latches using borrowed ;) Hardigg designs after too many people complained about the screw-type valves being lost and knuckles bloodied and bruised opening the old Pelis.

Hardigg has been selling to the military for years - they're just now getting into the professional and private-sector markets.

We don't get any perks for sending business Nathan's way, but after traveling through Central America with him by vehicle for three weeks, I can certainly recommend doing business with him! ::)

Re: DVX case query

thanks overland.
they look good.
the only thing i'm confused about is that when you buy it you're just supposed to cut out a hole for whatever you want inside it? seems a little primitive.
i might get the case that they have pictured with the little GL2 inside or whatever that is, as i'd really only have the cam and a battery or two in there, maybe some tapes.

thanks again.
very helpful.

Re: DVX case query

Hardigg has six-sided "pluck-apart" foam - about 3/8" cubes methinks. You can get pretty close to any shape using their foam - we were able to quickly pull out spaces for the DVX and batts and tape stock with absolutely no tools.

Custom-cut voids like the ones by Panasonic don't allow much flexibility and cost a heck of a lot more. Getting them replaced when they get dirty or worse is a big problem too.

Re: DVX case query

I have a pelikan 1600 and have fitted all I wanted into it, including anamrphic and battery charger, still camera and small gs-11 for playback on set. Iwould go with it as more space is usefull.

Re: DVX case query

Thanks,

But this one doesn't have the DVX100 shape in side. I am looking for something ready.

Thanks again.
