DVX case query

Re: DVX case query

I'm not sure why you'd want one with the custom-cut foam - it allows zero flexibility if you have extra tape stock, batteries or lenses and accessories?

The pluck-apart foam used in Hardigg and Peli products is fast to use and makes the case a significantly more versatile tool. That's just $.03 from a guy who owns twenty Hardigg cases...

Re: DVX case query

I upgraded to the Pelican 1620, my only advice is dont worry about going to big, i payed 170$ for my 1620 and love it and all the space it provides :) Its So nice having eveything in one spot.

Re: DVX case query

I have both the Hardigg Storm & Pelican cases. They're both good. I like the Storm because the grips for the hand are soft and the case is extremely well built, and wheeled versions are the only way to go, otherwise a trip to the location will be more difficult than need be. Be kind to yourself.

Big cases are better if your car can fit it in... they usually can. I put camera, batteries 2 chargers, cleaning gear, light meter, and i still have room for more...hopefully a new matte box.

As far as spaces for your gear, simply lay your gear on the foam and use tooth picks to mark the edges, and then simply tear out the space. It's simple and results in a customized clean professional storage environment for you gear. It's the only way to go.

The prices at casesforless.com are very attractive!

I have the 2400 storm case and it is nice! As for fitting the DVX, all you do is outline the DVX and other ACC. with toothpicks and then remove the DVX etc and use the toothpicks as a guide to pull out the foam blocks. (I cut them with a knife first, but you don't have to, its just a little easier that way.) Very fast and very easy, and it looks good, plus the gear is secure!

I wish I'd known about this site before I bought the case locally, I paid way too much!

how snugly does the cam fit in your pelican?

I'm considering the Pelican too, but am hoping there might be room for a shotgun mic and a small wireless mic transmitter and receiver.  Think the extras would fit in your 1550?  Would love to see a pic of it fully loaded if you have one!

Cheers -

Re: DVX case query

What ever case you decide to go with, if it's not the Panasonic case you'll have to either cut or pluck foam to make your pieces fit.
I personally don't like pluck foam because the squares always end up coming apart after a bit of use.
Here's a tip for cutting PERFECT shapes into foam blocks.
Get foam sheets that will fit the case you are using. They can be purchased in different thicknesses.
Submerge them in water then remove and slightly wring out the water.
Now place the foam in your freezer and let it freeze.
Remove from freezer and using an electric carving knife, cut out your shapes. It will cut like butter but perfectly straight lines!
Now let it thaw out and dry for several days before putting it in your case and using.

Make sure it's completely dry before using!
