In the dvx100b settings there is "camera settings" in there you can adjust the syncro scan.

In my dvx100b the 30p mode syncro scan is set at 1/40.0 and in 24p mode it swithches to 1/48.0

My question is.. in 30p mode would the setting 1/40.0 be ideal ... And why would I need or want to adjust the syncro scan in the settings area.

Thanks for the help!

Syncro scan is so you can adjust the DVX scan rate so as to eliminate the "flicker" you get when filming a computer screen. It allows you to adjust the camera scan rate to exactly match that of the computer, thus getting rid of that dark bar that rolls upwards. Modern LCD computer screens don't give that problem.

Shutter speed should be double the frame rate (24p- 1/48, 30p- 1/60) for best results.

As far as "also" setting syncro scan, syncro scan is shutter speed- it's just very fine adjustments to (like ekuseni said) eliminate flicker when shooting monitors.
Once you set syncro scan, that becomes your shutter speed.

As you change it, your 1/40.0 would become 1/40.1, 1/40.2, 1/40.3, etc.
Shoot a TV or monitor, and start adjusting syncro scan, and you'll see a fat scan line in the LCD, then as you adjust SS, the line will get thinner until it disappears.

But setting the syncro scan to a different value only changes your shutter speed IF you've set your shutter speed to syncro scan. Confusing, I know, and it trips a lot of folks up.

Use the speed sel buttons to set your shutter speed to the number that's between the fastest and the slowest (i.e., between 1/2000 and 1/24, you'll find a shutter speed with a decimal point, such as 1/48.0. That's the syncro scan speed).

Then you can go in the menus and adjust what that syncro scan speed is.
