Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

$130.00 for that? The wheels and bearings are another $100.00 or so...

Plus the angle iron, nuts, bolts and pipe....

That's roughly a hundred for wood.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

Hey John! I missed this, it's soo good! The shot of the couch and the car SCREAM zombie flick!!!!!

(scream pun intended) ;D

Man, If you end a shot like that with a close up of a bloody leg limping right by the lens...man that rocks John!

I might have missed it in another thread, but how much did it cost and are you willing to make another for profit?? ;D

Good job!

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

Yeah Phil!

Totally! My friend/writing partner did the actual building. It was roughly:

$180.00 for all the parts...

Scott (The dude) will do it for $300.00 over parts and shipping.

It is such a cool tool to have that I'm like "OMG - how could I not have this before"

Check out the first DVX DOLLY thread for addtional footage!

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

This is probably a dumb question coming from someone who never even used a dolly. But why wouldn't the above cart with the fat rubber tires be just as smooth? Also, has anyone here ever used or seen a dolly with tracks like a tank?

Do the owners mind?
LOL ;D

Pookie is right. It's heart breaking to see John and his son living in a garage... Full of boxes... It's not even empty ... On Christmas! :'(

Nice yard though....
LOL

:D

Mike

Tracks are the way to go to get the super smooth shot.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

But he's got the coolest stuff in those boxes, and a dolly, AND his wife is hot. Living in the garage is a small price to pay. ;D

for 85% of the time the wagon I posted would be perfect for smooth shots. Most $5000 + dollys actually do have tires like that with dips in the middle of them to put on a track. Youll save money by buying this and just throwing on the wheels and brackets as well as leaving the tires on. Plus it looks great IMO

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

That set-up would work with perfectly even ground (warehouse concrete floor or wood floors for example). Any dips or uneven areas would cause some problems however. With a track set-up you can compensate for this by leveling out the track.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

Actually, part of the purpose of tracks it to make multiple takes repeatable.

With a wagon, you're going to wander.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

Also that wagon has a truck on the front (steering wheels) meaning it can only be pulled. You try pushing it and you will be all over the map. That wagon has very few uses for dolly work and is too limiting.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

THANKS FOR POSTING footage of how it looks !!!!

Man, I'm building one next week, and posting some footage !!!

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

That's it. I'm building my own. Now where the heck did I put my Donna Summer CD's?

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

What about the PVC? Did you simply lay each piece on the ground or are they attached in some manner??

Awsome results though I really want to try and build one- - I just finished building the $14 steady cam and it came out ok. Having both would be great!

P.S. That is the link to the steadycam

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

PVC is merely laying there. :)

I'm going to get some end caps (nipples?) for the end rails to stop the dolly.

Re: DVX and Dolly Extra

Hey John, what is the height of the pipe/t-bar handle? Do you like the height, or do you wish you made it any higher or lower?

Cheers,
Josh
