Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Norm, I feel your pain. I really do.

When I lived in Hawaii, I rented a house in a nice suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, there was that one family on the block with questionable activities that had people frequenting their place at all times of the day (and night).

Anyway, one day coming home from work, I noticed stuff laying all over the floor as well as my 29-inch TV lying next to the door. Words can’t describe how I was feeling. It felt like I was violated. The mere thought of some piece of **** rat filth stealing my hard earned stuff tore me up. I had murder in my heart. I called the Honolulu Police Department and they took prints. The police mentioned that thieves often return back to the scene of the crime. Anyway, for the next three days I turned out all the lights, parked my car down the street and waited in ambush with my Sig Sauer P226. Luckily for the thief, he didn't return. After several days and my anger cooling down, my neighbor came by (the local drug dealer Aloha style) mentioning that he knew who broke into my house. Turns out the thief was a junkie and noticed I was military and decided to pay my house a visit while I was at work. My dealer neighbor mentioned he felt guilty because that shitbag thief frequented his house in need of illegal substances.

I called the police again and with my neighbors assistance gave them the thief’s name, his place of residence, and other bit of information. In true police fashion, they did nothing. I was pissed! I was even able to recover part of the stolen items. Sadly, 300 of my precious CDs were gone.

I was an infantry rifle company commander at the time and several of my soldiers volunteered to put a hit on him. While it was fun to entertain the idea, however for obvious reasons it was the wrong thing to do. Instead, my girlfriend at the time was a local wahine and well connected throughout Oahu and the local surfing community and put the word out through underground channels that the thief was a marked man. For months after that I would receive reports that he was living like Saddam Hussein from house to house out of fear of retribution. He would go running in the opposite direction at the sight at some of the local bradas in the hood. We laughed too hard.

The last I heard he was in prison.

Norm, keep up the good fight and keep an eye on your neighbors and friends.

What's that old saying: "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer"

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

The other thing is, which I won't mention here, is that the theives took something very specific besides the equipment which gives some clues as to who it may possibly be.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Not that i condone breaking the law.. but i would hit them immediately .. either a covert or overt attack and re-acquisition would be in order.. lol

I don't know about that. Nowadays, a thief can steal your property and still sue you for additional damages.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

We could beat them about the head and neck area profusley...
i understand that behavior is against the law.. but when in life would be a good time to vigorlessly defend our economic well being??..

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Yeah, that's what I think too.

I don't want to get in any trouble.
I just want them to get caught and to get my stuff back.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

I used to be a bailbondsman..im speaking from the aspect of when those screw us out of our money .. we go after them.. yeah its not always legal to go after those who have wronged us.. but.. what is right is right . what is wrong is wrong..

I have no problems sliding into someones lair when they sleep and putting a gun to their head while i collect my money..

what can he do?? call the police and say you stole his stuff?// they come to your house and find your stuff?/ all the while you know nothing of course..

i know this sounds far out.. but i have done it hundreds of times as a bondsman of course.. thye called the police maybe i can count on one hand..Guess what.. they never even responded..

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

not to downplay your plight, I truly feel for you, but why in this day and age do people still go to sleep or leave thier homes with doors and windows open and unlocked, pick up a paper or turn on the news...........people are crazy, your lucky that they only stole from you...always lock your doors and windows at night, if your hot turn on the AC.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

apartments dont have AC usually here in Canada.. and its been pretty hot.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

And Chi_red.. You offend one more person and I will need to remove you.. this isn't the place.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

I don't have AC in my apartment. It's fairly new as well. Only 4 years old. I could buy and install one for $500-800 but I can't really afford that, especially if I'll be moving out of this place within 4 months. It's been pretty hot and I usually do close/lock my windows/doors. However, that night, I just vacuumed the place and the vacuum air kind of smelled and it was so stuffy so I decided that I would leave the window open and of course lock all doors. They struck on the right time or they knew what time we went to bed. I think there are people definitely on the look out on my apartment.

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Sorry to hear Norm! real sad story. I am in a new apt too and have delivery men walk by my studio quite often. Yesterday two guys with my new office fridge peered in and saw the equip. Just the two editing monitors even attract attention to the common eye. I am installing better locks on my doors/windows since it was all kind of new regular stuff not studio intended. My my, why is this world going to the dogs. Just leave us alone, it is a camera & a pc, but we earn a living wityh the damn thing and we paid it through out nose! Respect bro Norm! & thanks Kai for changing it!

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Sorry Jarred and guys if I offended anyone with my avata,
I really didn't mean to offend anyone.
I thought it was no big deal.
Changed it to a harmless one,
Thanks :)

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

God, I just read through this thread, and kept looking at Chi's avatar thinking, what the heck is the big deal, am I missing something?! (Obviously, changing the avatar, changed all the posts...) LOL

Re: DVX + $13,000 other stuff Stolen :(

Norm

I am so sorry to hear about this. There are people on this planet that fall into the LIARS/CHEATERS and THIEVES category and I cannot even stand it. I live my life NEVER Lying, NEVER Cheating and NEVER Stealing. It pains me to hear this.

I goota agree that it is most likely someone closer than you think? It is not as if they 'walked' by and looked in as you have fire escapes? I would make a hard list of anyone you know and who has SEEN your house before and act quickly.

"It's just money" is what my grandmother always says to me (She grew up during the great depression in the U.S.). You and your girl are safe and that is all that matters. The rest can be re-aquired in time.

Hang in there.
