DVX 100B + Premiere Pro

I am totally new at this so please bare with me.
I capture my DVX 100B footage using a Canon ZR 950 and import to Premiere Pro. It seems perfectly fine on the source monitor. I create my clips on the monitor window by setting my in & out points on the monitor window and then either dragging to the timeline or automating to sequence, but once the footage is on the program monitor or timeline it seems heavily interlaced and after the first couple of clips, it just freezes. I hope I can somehow salvage this project. Please help!

OK, this will seem very sad but I made the video about a year ago and didn't exactly write down what settings I used and unfortunately don't remember anything other than I used the "squeeze" mode. It's only now after I have editing software that I've been able to view the footage again in an attempt to edit it. I've tried both Widescreen and Standard settings on PPro. My timebase is 29.97/ drop frame. It seems like I've played around with all the settings and the same keeps happening. My feeling is that the footage is not being interpreted as it should be or as a novice I've utterly screwed up. I sincerely appreciate your help and will try to provide any additional details that might tell you what I'm doing wrong.

Set your project as "desktop" which will allow all types of video to be put into the timeline. Also "interpret footage" in the project bin.

You need to use the Panasonic 24p Widescreen 48kHz project preset. It sounds like you're using a 60i project right now. You can't change the project once you've started, you'll need to create a new project.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I've been using Widescreen 48kHz but I haven't seen anything where you could choose between 24p and 60i. Where would I find this? I've also tried interpreting the footage in the project bin without success. Any suggestions on what to input for frame rate and pixel aspect ratio? One thing I have not tried is setting my project as desktop as reaktor suggests. How do I do that?

Leaving the interlaced problem on my DVX footage aside for a moment, I shot some stuff with my Canon ZR 950 as a test, edited my clips and created a sequence. When I got to the eighth clip, the image again froze and there's a horrible sound. Everything before then looks just fine. I moved the eighth clip to the beginning of the sequence to rule out that it wasn't just that one clip and the same happened again. I should mention I have a 500GB external hard drive (giving me close to a 1000GB) and my processor is a dual core 4200+ 2.20 GHz. Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions.

Im using PPro 2.0 and when starting a new project there is a 24p widescreen option. What version are you using? I thought I read that some earlier versions didnt edit 24p but I may be wrong. I did have a problem when going to PPro viewing video and needed to update my video driver.
