Hiya fellow DVXers. I recall in a previous post that another DVX user reported a "clunking" noise on the inside of the AG-DVX 100b when the camera was handheld. The response was that the clunking was normal and part of the steadyshot function. Can somebody confirm or deny whther this clunking is normal for this camera?

Its Completly Normal.....
they talk about it on the DVX DVD
its part of teh Image Stabilazation when the camera is powered down you can hear it....powered up shouldnt hear it

its normal

Well crap guys, you busted another opportunity to rip on the newb... if only I had gotten here quicker  Since that chance has come and gone, YES, that noise is normal, and it is related to the image stabilization parts as someone just said. Breathe easy and go back to making movies.

I was trying to start it out small ... I guess I should have gone for the throat with the first response.
:)

Oh well

Don't sell yourself short. It was a brilliant opening. Pity that nobody finished what you started.

I found the answer on another website and posted the link but, apparently, I am not allowed to do that because the linked post (which immediately proceeded my first post) had been removed. Sorry if I broke any rules.:embarasse

Actually....he's talking about a completely different "clunk" that is exclusive to the DVX100 B, that apparently none of you know about.

its not the image stabilizer, its in the camera viewfinder.

Different clunk. Do any of you have a 100B?

To fix that particular noise you have to tighten the focus dial so that your viewfinder is almost out of focus. Its annoying, but it stops the noise.

NO!!!!

DON'T tighten the viewfinder focus! That click is the eyecup return spring, it needs to be able to move. There's an issue with spring pressure if you lock it up. I wouldn't risk it so close to your eye for just a little click.

For those of you who have the 100 or the 100A, that clunk thing was cute, but the Bs have a serious issue with about 15% of the second production units.

I think you just got burned.

I just bought my 102B last week, not such problem. I think Panasonic solved the problem with the latest batch.
