DVX-100A a "sham"??!!

Re: DVX-100A a "sham"??!!

My friend had written a script and he wanted to shoot the film on the Sony PD-150. I told him we could shoot on my camera, but he said that he was used to the PD-150 and that everyone said it was the best camera to shoot with.

Ok, he shot the film and, when he looked at the footage he was very happy with it. I, on the other hand, didn't like it that much, but it was ok.

I then grabbed a couple of clips I downloaded from this site and showed him. I didn't tell him what camera they were shot on, and he was asking me if those were shot on 35mm. And I said to him: No, guess which camera they've used? And he said: no way! Are you serious? I said yes.

He went on to see his footage again, and he came back to me the next day and he said: Man, you were right. The footage from the PD150 sucks!

Do I need to say more? I guess not!

I love my DVX100. And I am not even afraid of the so called XL2, cause it is going to suck as well.

All the best

Fidel.

Sir,
With all due respect, your son does not seem to understand how 24p works and more importantly, LOOKS. I too, work for a tv station as a news photojournalist and can tell you that the Panny dvx is "the real deal". Last year I shot two news packages in 24p and my producers were blown away. This year I shot a package on the 100a and it will air durring the Jerry Lewis telethon for MDA. There is no way to get the same look using a promist and a pal camera, I've tried it. One other note: 4 television stations here in the San Diego area have purchased these and use them rountinely for promo's, special projects, etc. Rent one, borrow one and you will be a believer.

You aren't certainly including the DVX PAL in this, right?

Todd,
I already AM a believer! Again, my stepson's conversational strategy is to say whatever it takes ...and with a tone of authority... to show that he's the "expert" of the two of us. Black is white, up is down... He had me going for a little while, but not now.

Re: DVX-100A a "sham"??!!

Hi powerdog,
well I'm glad you've seen the light. I am by no means an expert, I'm just an everyday news photographer. The dvx is a way different animal than my sony betacm I use at work(yes, we are still on beta sp). The dvx however has many applications in the news biz, and the management of my station loves the "look" especially for special projects. good luck!

To be honest with you, I have seen footage from the two cameras, and I don't much difference. I do have the PAL version, but honestly, they seem almost the same to me.

The only difference I saw was on the DVFilm site. Their transfers. That is all.

All the best

Fidel.
