DVTec at NAB

Stopped by and met some of our folks today. Met up with Danny. Has some nice stuff, and some small updates to already great products too.

The DvMultiRig Pro that he is shipping now has changed since the version that I have. He's got a quick release on the support rod now. He's removed all plastic from the unit, and little things that required fidgeting have now been upgraded as well to streamline the ease of use factor and now allows for even quicker swapping from the different shooting modes. Instead of the handles having that little metal teet that you had to fidget with to lock and unlock, there are now large knobs that just require a simple turn and you can now swivel the handles freely throughout their range of motion.

All metal construction and solid. I really enjoy my multirig, and seeing the little things Danny has done to fulfill user requests and just make the product overall even better, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the newer unit, as well as trying out some of his other gear I've had my eye on for a while.

I watched a few folks stop by the booth and try it out, and they just fell in love with it, and several folks bought one on the spot.

He's got a new piece that goes on your tripod now that will allow you to set the whole multirig (with camera) directly onto your tripod in a matter of a few seconds.

Optional stronger springs will easily support the weight of a fully kitted HVX w/ rails, 35mm flipped adapter setup, etc... and with still more than enough spring to spare for an external monitor. I love that and am looking forward to expirmenting with that b/c of the portability of the multirig. While the DV Rig Pro HD is meant for that kind of setup, being able to use the more portable multirigpro with that kind of setup is a real bonus for me. Like when I fly around the world and can fit my cam, adapter, and multirig in my backpack and carry it all on without issue.

Anyways, it's not big RED, Panny, or Sony news, but it's news nonetheless. I've been a big fan of Danny, b/c I believe he makes great products, and listens to his customers to make them even better.

Jason

Jason, I missed you at the booth. I am helping Danny show the goods and agree with everything you said about the MultiRig. The improvements make a difference and really set it apart.

Stop by again if in the neighborhood.

I too have the older version of this product and loved it. I'm very intrigued by the description of the changes, definitely makes sense after having used it.

It's great as it is, but these changes will definitely make it an even stronger product. Great job guys

the QR plate for the rod sounds sweet as do the nobs in place of the teets. would be nice if we could upgrade the older model easily.

I'll ask Danny tomorrow about an upgrade path or discount for exchange... or if he has anything in place like that.

Later,
Jason

44 bucks according to the site. Free shipping if you order the multirig along with it.

I have one and I'd say you should be ok... I'm 30 inches, but the thing goes around me one and a half times. I've seen folks of several different sizes using it at NAB.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, but I can confirm tomorrow when I head back by their booth.

Jason

You will be fine on the belt. I am 38" and have room (from John who is working the booth for Danny). Danny used to offer a DVX user discount on the belt, not sure if that is still in affect.

Jarred stopped by today. Danny has nice things to say about Jarred and the members of the DVXUser community. Seems everyone here has helped make DV Tec a success.

Danny also said you can go and get any sports belt and use the clip.

About an upgrade program:

Danny said, sure... of course. But, it's pretty much on an individual basis as opposed to something formal. So, just email him and he'll take care of you based on your individual situation... what unit you have, how tech savvy you may/may not be, etc.

But, he'll definitely take care of anyone wanting to upgrade to get their units current. Danny is a really stand up, top notch, great guy.

Very cool. I suspected as much. Danny's always helped me out.

And the pony tail is the bomb!
"Thunder from Down Under" but a little older (NAB joke).

The rig rocks, run out and buy one...

I thought that the old version had this ability anyway, in the form of the L-bracket that attached to the right grip?
I used to mount my rig on a tripod anyway.
The only thing that really slowed me up was having to screw/unscrew the support pod.

Is this a totally new bracket that makes going from MultiRig use to tripod mount even quicker?

I got mine that I ordered at the show the other day. I'm very impressed with how fast he got it out to me after the show, and impressed with the quality. My first tests went well and I think I will only get better with it as time goes on.

Yes it is a new piece that fits the shape of the Multi Rig. Mount it to your tripod and the bottom of the Multi Rig slips in and locks off.

Cool, so it will work with the MultiRig Pro and and tripod QR plate (like that for a Bogen 501 tripod).

Ah I see so it's a QR assembly that mounts to your tripod. Then the bottom of the MultiRig is such that it slides and locks in. So it can attach to any tripod..I guess via QR plate which attaches to it.

Brilliant...
Danny is a genius...I can't think of anything else that I would need the DVMulti Rig to do. It's the ultimate rig now with no competition.

Woops I did think of one more thing...darn my brain. the ability to extend the Multi Rig even higher than it currently can (maybe a optional 3 section support pod).
This way I might be able to get some booming over the crowd shots that I can do with a monopod.
