Is the pulldown feature in DV Rack limited to capture time, or can it work on MXF files during a batch conversion process?

Can DV Rack HD batch convert from an MXF to an MXF?

I want to do 24P workflow in Avid, so specifically: can DVRack HD convert from a 1080i/24PA MXF to a 1080P MXF?

I don't think you can control pulldown removal in the Batch Converter. In DV Rack itself this is controlled by selecting between AVI Type 1 (no pulldown removal) and AVI Type 2 (pulldown removal), but the Batch Converter always outputs AVI Type 2. It also cannot output MXF files.

The Batch Converter has a QucikTime AVID format that would seem to be the best choice for AVID users. I don't use AVID, but there's got to be a good reason why that option is there.

By stating "I don't think you can control pulldown removal in the Batch Converter" do you mean to say it is always on? If the batch converter always outputs AVI Type 2, then it would seem to always do pulldown removal. Correct?

Can someone answer: does the Batch Converter's QuickTime AVID format do the pulldown for 1080i/24PA?

Yes, pulldown removal is always done by the Batch Converter as far as I can tell. During live recording in DV Rack, there is a way to disable it by selecting "AVI Type 1" as the recording format; if you select "AVI Type 2" or QuickTime, pulldown is always performed, and you get the equivalent of a PN (native mode) recording.

As far as pulldown removal for QuickTime is concerned, I just did a simple test, recording a short video in 1080i/24PA format, and converting it to "QuickTime AVID" using the Batch Converter. The video was 5:20 long, and the resulting QuickTime file contained 140 frames, so pulldown removal must have been done during the conversion.
