Ok brickhouse, let's debate ......... the bears on my show were all taken in Wi. The Wi. Dept of Natural resources just released a finding that the bear population here is double what they thought it previously was. Therefore they have issued 50 % more tags this year to help control the numbers......Without hunters, the population would skyrocket to epic proportions, then drastically decline a few years later from lack of food sources for the bear. They would subsequently starve to death. Bear human interactions would sky rocket and there would be a lot of unhappy homeowners, farmers, foresters and pet owners, as the bears started to look for alternative food sources. You can look this up on the WiDNR.com website if you like.

As for your claim that bears are becoming extinct because of hunting in northern Canada, I would like to see the data that supports this. I know for fact that in Ontario when the ministry closed the spring bear hunts the population went through the roof and they now have many "problem" bears in the province as a result.

What most non-hunters don't understand is that most species of wild animals that are on this planet, are here as a direct result of hunters.....We foot the bill for game management and re-population projects throughout the U.S. The market hunting that took place here in the late 1800's and early 1900's wiped out a number of wild species in most states, the Pittman-Robertson Act which taxes hunting related items, helped to bring back those threatened species. Take for instance the wild turkey, we now have turkey populations in 49 of our 50 states....50 years ago there were only a handful of states that had self sustaining populations of turkeys. The organization responsible for the re-stocking was the National Wild Turkey Federation which is solely supported by hunters. Hunting brings in $Billions$ of revenue to each state and Canadian province every year. What other type of recreation does this? Here in Wi. we have 700,000 hunters that chase whitetail deer every season. Our annual deer herds before the hunt are est. 1.7 million animals, without hunting, our deer herd would skyrocket to record proportions, then plummett like a stone as they used up all their food resources and starved to death, taking a number of other smaller species with them from the over browsing of habitat the deer destroyed.

Let me ask you this, have you ever hit a deer, moose, bear, or elk with your vehicle? I have in the past 21 years that i have been driving , hit no less than 15 deer with various cars and trucks that I have had. Was i trying to hit these animals, hell no, but that is the reality of a large deer herd. I lived in a rural area and deer crossed the road at various points along my normal route, even when I knew where the deer would cross the highway I would still have close calls or hits, because the deer would run out of the ditch and there would be no way for me to stop in time. And I can tell you that a car hit deer suffers a whole lot more as it slowly dies over the next few days or weeks, than one that has been shot with a gun or bow and expires within seconds..........

Let me ask you this, what other human being besides the hunter, actually pays to help restore or maintain our wild animal populations? If you tell me the anti hunting organizations you are wrong, they contribute nothing to directly help animal populations anywhere in the world, as a matter of fact the Humane Society of the United States euthanizes more animals in a year than any other organization. They take your donation dollars and line thier pockets and kill the animals that you think they are helping........The reality is there is no other group of people in this country that actively supports and funds management for wild animals besides hunters.........Period! If you don't believe me , look it up.

Am I trying to sway your opinion of hunting, no, if you are an anti hunter there is no way for me to convince you to change your mind, but I will defend something I dearly love with facts and the truth. When you can show me data that hunting is "murder" and it causes great pain and suffering to animals and that hunting is not beneficial to wild animal populations all over the world , I might change my mind.

Everything I have stated here is fact supported by decades of data, if you question anything I have said please look it up and gain some knowledge, instead of blantanly passing me off as some beer swilling redneck inbred that gets his rocks off by killing animals!!!!!!

Being a born and raised Californian the prevailing attitude seemed to be anti hunting. I did live in Denver for about 6 years at one point and met a few avid hunters. They have a different slant on the whole subject. Apparently the deer populations need to be culled, depending on winter conditions, and the state agencies keep a good track on animal populations. This one couple we met would use the entire animal, meat, skins, and even the bones for different purposes. I still wouldn't hunt myself but I could see their point.

I would say predation keeps a balance in wild animal populations, not Dick Cheyney and company. There are six species of bear that are endangered because of hunting/poaching. There are another 4 species of bear that were endangered until the Endangered Species Act steped in, because hunters almost wiped them off the planet.

No, I've never hit anything with my car. I almost hit a squirrel once but I managed to come to a grinding halt before I hit it.

If there are actually species of animals that exist because of hunting (which i looked up and found no evidence of, not necesairily meaning that it's not true) then hunting is just 'playing god' with the natural order. I would argue more but I have to leave right now. I eat beef, chicken, pork and fish, and maybe that makes me a hypocrite, but i think there are some things that don't need to be hunted, like bears.

Hunting by humans is predation, so what's your point?

Please enlighten me as to what species of bear or any other animal for that matter, is being endangered by hunting?
I checked it out on one of the most liberal, anti hunting sites I could find http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/11/photogalleries/bear-pictures/index.html
And as for N.A. bear species the only one they listed as "threatened" was the Polar bear , the cause said nothing of hunting, but habitat loss.......They also list the grizzly, and black bear, but go on to say that the species is stable and not nessasarily threatend..........The listed species were all on other continents and POACHING or COMMERCIAL hunting was one of the many causes for their endangered status........Well I do not hunt out of season or for species that are not huntable, therefore I am NOT a poacher.........I do not sell the hide or meat or any other part of the animals I kill, so therefore i am NOT a commercial hunter (which is not legal in North America)

By the way, in North America the only species of bear are as follows: Black bear, Grizzly bear(basically the same as brown bear), Polar bear, Brown bear Kodiak bear (again same as brown bear)........By my count that only equals 5 bear species 2 of which are a sub species of the same bear, so please enlighten me on the bear species that I am not aware of that exsist in North America, or were you blanketing the entire globe with your statement and taking fact out of context by claiming it was management hunting instead of the real causes of POACHING and MARKET HUNTING which are not forms of hunting, they are forms of breaking the law in most countries.

You talk about natural predators doing thier job, what natural predators do bears have??????? Answer, NONE.(besides man)

As for you never having an animal vehicle collision, you are fortunate, but I live in a rural area of the United States and it is a reality here, so much so that the DNR is trying to lower the deer populations (through hunting) to accomodate auto insurance companies.

Also with high game populations and ever conflicting herd sizes with humans, natural predation cannot keep game populations in check, that is why hunting is the most important management tool on earth to keep game species healthy and alive.
And yes, by eating meat, yet calling hunting murder you are a hypocrite, but if you can live with your hypocratic values more power to you.........I for one know that I am doing my part in the eco system by hunting and eating my quarry, for I am the greatest predator on the food chain, MAN!:)

Can we now get back to the video at hand?

yeh this has turned into a debate about all kinda stuff peeps...which really wasnt prong's intentions. back to the video!

my take is i like the shots and footy, however deeper contrast on some some them would really make them stand out like. And the titles i dont really like..kinda cheesy. But u've stated u were trying to get far from the hollywood look or somthing to that effect( i cant remember). So u did that in mind. Overall...nice footage.
