DVD learning XH A1

Could anyone really smart suggest the best DVD tutorial to learn the Canon XH A1. I find the manual daunting. I know the basics--and could even use a review of that-- but I want to get more deeply into audio settings, custom presets and stuff I don't even know how to ask about right now. Thanks. Megan

Megan,

look for
Inside the Canon XH-A1 and XH-G1, from VAAST
by Donald Berube, Daniel Berube, and Douglas S. Eagle

Excellent detail and clarity.

The VASST DVD is really good. I'll also put in a plug for one of my former film school students who is talent in the vid ;)

It's as comprehensive as you can get and much easier to digest over the manual because you get a hands-on visual walkthrough of everything.

The A1 is simply one of the most configurable sub $10k cams out there. You can match it to ANY cam, but not necessarily the reverse. For the price point, it can't be beat.

Although the VASST DVD is helpful. Do check out my own 2008 DVD Learn the XHA1.

Unlike Inside .... this is not a talking head video.

Rather it is programmed instruction--it takes you step by step through using the XHA1 rather than listing the buttons. And every shot is of the camera in action not the narrator.

It includes features not covered anywhere else such as XLR input, understandable discussions of color correction and skin detail with examples of how to teach yourself to use these features.

I'm a teacher with years of teaching experience who actually uses the XH-A1 for most of his filmmaking. I designed the programmed instruction in Learn the XHA1 to get you up and running after watching it a few times. But don't take my word for it: read the reviews on Amazon.
