DVD Backup

I burn ALLOT of DVDs.

You need to evaluate what it is you want out of your disks. If you need long term storage out of them you need to by high quality disks.

+ or - disks matters only when you are going to burn dvd content for viewing on a tv. If you are burning data its irrelevant. If you burn a tv viewable dvd and you can get an acceptable quality image (subjective) at a low data rate it really won't matter if you use + or - in 90% of the cases.

In my case I haven't been satisfied with my picture's quality at the lower data rates. So, to improve the image quality I use a high data rate. This increases the risk that the disk will not play nicely with all DVD players. With higher data rate DVDs I have found that the +R format is more compatable with more players more often.

Andy, yes that is the name of the software. no its not free. its something like $29. I just used the trial version for this time, but I might buy the software seeing that Nero (which I like but have not used much for dvd burning) had trouble and this did it without a hitch.

If I'm not mistaken DVD+R has more error correcting capabilities which makes it more reliable. But please double check this info.

Also I saw a post in where someone talked about burning at 1x speed and that it produced more reliable result in household DVD players. (so if you are having problems try this.)

There is also the issue that some household DVD players like +R and others like -R so keep that in mind also.
