DVCPROHD Setting

This is somewhat of a re-post or a partial re-post, but I don't really have an answer as of yet.

In 1080i/24 format, I am bringing video from the hvx via firewire to my computer, and "log and capturing" it straight to FCP. The record setting on the camera says dvcpro50 and can't be changed to dvcprohd, which I had assumed would be the correct setting. Is there a reason why this is happening? (i.e. can I only shoot in dvcprohd with a p2 card?)

Thank you.

Are you referring to menu #5 (recording setup) and line #2 where it says "480i rec mode DVCPro50" in blue letters that can't be changed?
If so that has nothing to do with your footage if it is at 1080i/24p.
That is referriing to the last setting you had in 480i mode. If you change the top line setting to any 480i mode you will see the second line change to white so you can then change that if you want.
If your top line settings are 720 or 1080 they are DVCProHD. There is no DVCPro50 in 720 or 1080, as it is Standard Def format. i.e. 480i.
You can record in DVCPro50 to P2 card but not to tape.
Just make sure the top line in that menu says 1080i/24p or 1080i/24pa (depending on what mode you shot in) and the footage should play back in camera.
BTW video cam or film cam mode has nothing to do with this either.

Don't worry about the DVCPro50 display, it's unavailable because it is not applicable to the recording format you are using (1080i/24). The HVX displays all options that are not applicable in blue, and the value shown is merely the setting that was used the last time a compatible recording format was used.

Record clips and check their attributes in FCP.

They should be what you record. Also might want to peek at the manual and read what blue colored lettering means

Yeah, if the option is in blue, you need not concern yourself with it. The camera is set up exactly as it should be in that regard.
