DVC Rack Ship Date??

I've searched and searched, is there any solid time table for the release of Serious Magic's support for the HVX 200??

The only "official" answer has been "sometime this summer." It's coming, and a lot more. :) Stay patient.

I have an idea about what the " and a lot more" may mean.

Do tell. :)

I would jump up and cheer if:

1. Panasonic enabled Native frame streaming via Firewire

and then of course

2. Serious Magic allowed for Native frame support within DVCRack

Let's clarify that -- DVC Rack doesn't get any data if you are shooting in any of the native modes, because the HVX200 doesn't send anything out to the DV port. But if you are shooting 24P, DVC Rack will drop the redundant frames for you -- it's similar to using FCP's Frame Rate Conversion utility, you wind up with a file that contains just the frames you want.

They already allow for native frame support within DVC Rack.

Right. It's just that I want to capture Native frames to my P2 cards and use DVCRack to monitor (mostly). Since Panasonic doesn't allow for Firewire streaming in Native modes, I cannot currently do this. However, I bet a simple firmware update from Panny can enable Firewire streaming in Native modes. Or someone's hackability.

I realize that Native mode streaming via Firewire would not be compatible with various deck recording standards BUT we are not mere consumers. I'm not Joe Public who bought a Digital8 camera, trying to shove in a MiniDV tape and wondering why it won't work. We are generally professionals in this industry. I think we would know enough (or can easily learn) that, in theory, we wouldn't be able to use Native Firewire streaming with current record decks.

Am I alone here? I think we need to keep politely pestering Panasonic to enable this feature. As great as things already are, it would certainly be a BIG boost for my workflow. C'mon, Jan - deliver us the good news soon! :)
