ps I am finishing edits on FCpro on a mac so I need to shoot on .MOV

I'm not aware of a (cheap) solution to your problem. Apple chose not to implement DVCProHD in the Windows version of QuickTime.

Even if you install a third-party DVCProHD codec (like the Adobe/Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder), QuickTime will not see it.

The only way I know of to view QuickTime files containing DVCProHD video on the PC is by loading the QuickTime file into Edius 4 Broadcast or Avid. I've personally done this in Edius.

I own and use DV Rack 2.0 HD. It can record to QuickTime as well as AVI files. The AVI files can be opened in Premiere if you install the DVCProHD Decoder that is included with DV Rack 2.0 HD. FCP should also be able to open the files.

cool got the DV RACK,
my HVX200 is set to fire wire device mode I can see the camera in sd mode but not in HD any ideas ?
do I need a camera driver?
does it work with USB connection as well?
I tried opening up capture section with premiere and all I can capture is SD I am not sure where to ge the fool scoop on this....

  1. You need DV Rack 2.0 HD
  2. No driver is needed.
  3. You cannot use a USB connection.
  4. Premiere's capture module does not support DVCProHD, even with DV Rack installed.
  5. The camera cannot be in any of the native (PN) recording modes -- no data is sent out through the Firewire port in these modes because there is no 1:1 correspondence of the recorded frames to the frames to be displayed.
