DV vs DVCPRO on P2?

Ok, I know the main differences between DV and DVCPRO are in the way it is recorded to tape. As far as I know the actual video signal is the same for both. All informations on the HVX states that you can record DVCPRO100,50,25 "and" DV to P2. Is there a difference when not going to tape? I just think its weird that they have separate recording options for these 2 formats when not going to tape.

Thoughts?

DV and DVCPRO are different codecs. - There are a few minor differences.
- For example DVCPRO is always 4:1:1, whilst in europe DV (and DVCAM) are 4:2:0
DVCPRO also has the allocation of an analog audio cue track, at least on the tape.. not sure how that works with files.
So though not major differences to the quality, there are a few small things that make them different.

I have wondered about this too. In PAL land I guess the difference is obvious, but in NTSC land I doubt there will be any difference on P2....

I don't think there would be any difference at all between NTSC/P2/DVCPRO25 and NTSC/P2/DV. The main differences between DVCPRO25 and DV were locked audio, the audio cue track, the type of tape, the size of the tape, etc. None of those will be factors in a P2 recording.

So in PAL there will be a definite difference (4:2:0 DV vs. 4:1:1 DVCPRO25) but in NTSC there probably wouldn't be a difference.
