DV Tape transfer...

Hi,

I have only one camera and I currently use it to transfer my video to a computer for editing. A friend of mine told me to buy a dirt-cheap DV camera to use as a DV VCR so I don't wear out the heads of my camera. My question is, If I follow his advice would the dirt-cheap camera transfer all the quality of the DV cassette or not? Have any of you tried this?

Same quality. Best to use a camera that can output timecode for your editing system (such as the Sony cameras) The low end panasonics unfortunately don't so you have to do a capture now instead of log and capture.
 
I have used a cheap camera to transfer before and had no problems. I would say, however, unless you are transferring hours upon hours of video day in and day out, you really won't have to worry about wearing out heads.
 
MiniDV is MiniDV.. It's a MiniDV camera right? Yes? Good, becuse then it playes back MiniDV!

Yes you can use ANY deck to playback and or capture the footage from your beloved DVX ... except of course your DVX, you want to save those heads for the sweet sweet shooting! yeah! ..ok, that got wierd.

when we're using another camcorder to capture the footage can we use again the same tape to continue shooting with the dvx? cause i ve heard about different type of tapes and readers that are of course all compatible but can dirty the heads when exchanging.
why are the dv decks so expensive? you can buy a cam playing dv tapes for 300$ but it s impossible to find a simple dv reader deck for less than 1500$.... i know that you can have some editing functions on these but is there a lot of people in 2006 who are editing with that?
i m thinking of getting a firestore, half the price of the professional deck, no more tapes to buy, and upgradable for my hdv cam. do anybody know if the fs4 is compatible with 25p (pal)?
